Last night, we attended a 20th celebration of my friend’s restaurant. We arrived around 515 pm and were the first ones there. Thai dancers were going to be performing at 7 pm, but we wanted to feed the kids first, and have the table turned over for the second show at 830 pm. We got a few dishes, and the kids ate most all of it. Neena knows what the kids enjoy, so she knew what we wanted for the most part. We did try a few new things as well. We finished up, and soon the show began. We moved tables to get a better view, and Peyton was interested. I think Brandon was, too, as he agreed to take a picture with the ladies.
Peyton didn’t want to take a picture with them, even though I assured her that she would not have to dance with them.
We got home late, and the kids went right to bed. They’d already bathed earlier, so it saved a bit of time.

We told them we’d be waking them up early this morning. I set my alarm for 440 am, and had Peyton sleep in part of what she’d be wearing today. I got her up after I finished getting ready. I just turned her radio off, and she groaned awake. She started to cry, until I assured her she was okay. I think she was just disoriented. I got her ready, and she went to brush her teeth and put her shoes on. Dave was already waiting for her in the car. I went to get Brandon, and he asked me why I was waking him up at 5 am. He got up quickly, and we left by 510 am. I convinced Dave to come with me to my race at 7 am. He wasn’t happy about it, but he’s a great guy 🙂 The kids were quiet on the way up, but when we arrived, they started asking about breakfast. I’d brought them some protein bars and fruit for them. I said goodbye to them while I waited to potty. I met up with Roxy and Eric in the corral about 15 minutes to race start, before we all decided to use the potty again. I’d had a full water bottle worth of water on the drive up. So, this was the first race I’ve missed the start, but really it doesn’t start until you cross the line. So we all jumped back into the corral after our potty break, and started the race. The 10 K’ers and half-marathoners all started together. I said bye to Roxy, then headed out on my own. It was an out and back race, so I re-traced the steps that Brandon and I had walked a few weeks ago. I had promised Dave that I wouldn’t be too long, so I was trying to run hard to get back, especially since I’d started later. The first half of the race was shorter, though I didn’t know it at the outset. When I ended up on the start line, I thought we were done, but it turns out we had another ways to run around the stadium, and to the finish line. I’d already sprinted, and was spent by the time I had to run around the back. I finished and checked my phone for Dave’s whereabouts. I’d given him Carolyn’s contact info as she was watching her Dave. Dave gave me accurate details of where he was. I grabbed my bagel, fruit and water, and headed over to them. He was in protest and wearing his UCLA (Dodger) blue gear, so I thought it would be easy to find him. Turns out he was sitting down, so he was a little harder to see. But it was just the three of them in the stadium seats. They didn’t see me at first, but I stood in front of where Brandon was, then he spotted me. Both kids came down the aisle, and this is what I took:
Dave’s in the background, gathering up their stuff. He ended up not meeting up with Carolyn since it wasn’t easy to navigate. Dave had the stroller with him, so he was elevator-bound. We pottied, then all of us headed out. While we were walking back to the parking lot, we came across Carolyn and the boys! They’d just arrived, and she was surprised I was done! Little did she know that I had done a much shorter distance than Dave, who was doing his first half-marathon! We said bye to them quickly, and then we headed out. While we drove home, I checked my official results. My ipod had said I’d run 6.73 miles, with a 9:50 pace, while the official records was a 10:28 pace, with an overall time of 1:04:55, a PR for a 10k for me, shaving off a few seconds, but I still can’t get it under 10. This was a flat run, so it should have been way faster than the Wharf to Wharf, my last 10K, last year, which was hilly. Next year, I was hoping Brandon would do the 5K with me. He said he wanted my bobble head on Friday, so I told him to run and he could get one, too. We’ll see. Thank you again to Dave for coming out with the kids to cheer me on. It means a lot to see their smiling faces (and Dave’s face [he wasn’t smiling when he was in the park]). We all came home and took a monster nap, even though both kids were sleeping in the car on the way back. We then went to go ride bikes, so Peyton can practice some more. Apparently both kids have inherited my nervous laughter when doing physical activity. I used to giggle when I ran when I was little, too.
We’re ordering her another helmet, since she landed on her face yesterday, though still willing to get back up. Since we encountered a dead squirrel right in our path on our way into the park, we took the long way around, with each of the kids pushing their own bikes. until Peyton fell over her bike into the bushes. Then I picked it up for her and carried it the rest of the way, stopping Dave to relieve me of it. When we came home, I fed them dinner, while Dave went to go check out a pick up softball game. He came back 1.5 hours later, and said he didn’t even go! He checked it out, but it wasn’t looking his thing, so he went shopping instead. He got the kids some camping gear, and then went for a run while I entertained the kids until bedtime. He got back for their goodnight hugs. Now we’re winding down the rest of the weekend!
