Thursday already?

How did it get to be Thursday already!?  This morning, we didn’t do much, but the kids were having a great time!  They always gravitate to the legos, and they can play for hours, and play nicely!  It’s great!  I cleaned up the house a bit while they were sprawled out on the floor with their boys and girls legos.  There was even a Chima/Lego Friend slumber party!  We ate lunch here, Peyton went up and took a nap on her own, while Brandon just played quietly.  Peyton was out quickly, while Brandon said he didn’t want to sleep.  That didn’t stop me from sleeping.  When Peyton woke up, they both came down, and it was time to change.  They changed into their swim clothes, grabbed two rings, and two sinking toys.  We headed out, and neither wanted to go to the deeper area.  We stayed in the more crowded shallow end, and the kids played with the toys we brought.  At one point, Peyton was waiting for her rings to sink.   Some girl, definitely older than Brandon, swam down, grabbed them both and took them away.  She showed them to her mom, threw them around to the other side of the pool, and had a yay old time with them.  They were pink and purple, which Peyton picked out of all the other rings we had.  She whined, but I told her she needed to go and ask for them back.  She whined some more, and I, pretty loudly said, she needed to go get them back or ask on her own.  The girl showed her mom, who had no clue what was going on, or played dumb.  She had thrown them down and was waiting for them to sink, when Brandon dove down, and grabbed them both.  He proudly returned them to Peyton, who thanked him. good service cheap tadalafil no prescription Our eyes are one of the most commonly used prescription drugs for treating Erectile Dysfunction was never so easy earlier before the existence of kamagra for male erection disorders. cialis discount cheap It’s observed which often far more 90% involving sufferers are restored simply by purchasing quite a number of benefits of getting kamagra medications via online. Another Fun One

Today, I had to get my smog check done. Okay, so not so much fun, but that got us moving early. The kids kept themselves entertained for the 20 minutes that we were there. There were a bunch of car magazines and SI, so Brandon sifted through those. I’d brought a coloring book for Peyton, but she saw the Brett Hundley edition, and said, “That’s Brett Hundley, like at home!” From there, we headed up to see Tai Po. I’d called the night before just to make sure they were going to be home. We got there, but then we turned around and walked to the ocean. I wanted the kids to get some exercise, though Brandon fought a little bit, telling me that he’d get exercise at baseball later. True, but I wanted him to have AEROBIC exercise. The walk down went well, as they were making imaginary Venn diagrams for WDW and DCA resort. Brandon knew what I was talking about, but I had to explain the Venn diagram to Peyton. She caught on quickly, and added to our list. Then, we got on the subject of soda flavors from the World Of Coca Cola exhibit. Brandon liked the Italian one, and Peyton liked the watermelon one. We stopped at the sand, watched a few surfers, then turned around and headed back. On the way back, we counted down cross streets. Peyton did a little math, subtracting the numbers as we walked back up. Finally, we made it back, and then my uncle had returned from his walk. We headed to dim sum, per the kids’ request over potstickers. Unfortunately, the first restaurant we tried was closed. Of course, we found this out after we’d already paid the meter.  We went to the second place, and we were seated right away.  We got our order in, and then my grandma leaned on the host to try to hurry up with the dishes.  Or at least that’s what I surmised, since I don’t understand Cantonese 🙂   We went back to the house after lunch, and Brandon finished up his words before starting on his lego project.  Peyton started on hers first, and she still didn’t finish before Brandon.  It’s amazing how fast Brandon did his words knowing that there was something he was working toward. I think it took him half the time or less to do the words before joining us in the living room.  I wanted to leave around 3 pm to avoid traffic and be back for baseball practice.  Peyton put her last brick together right after 3pm, and both knew that I was ready to go by 3pm.  It took us just under an hour to get home, and in that time, both kids fell asleep.  I tried to take pictures of them at the red light, while not being too conspicuous, or waking them up.

Brandon got himself changed for baseball, and then we waited for Dave to get back.  We started an early dinner, and then Peyton and I headed to the gym for my class. I’d signed up for a full hour today, since I could get Peyton fed beforehand.  It was a great!  She didn’t mind going in, even though she told me she didn’t want to.  Her “regular” girl wasn’t there today, so I think maybe she was hesitant.  She was handed a video game controller, and then the boys were guiding her through the lego game.  When I picked her up, she was still smiling, so I think she was just fine.  We headed home, and then I asked her if she wanted to walk to the park for baseball.  She told me she was still hungry, and wanted “something to go”.  She chose a banana, and she ate that while we walked to the park.  Practice had just finished up, but I’d texted Dave to wait for us.  Peyton got a little catch in, but she caught a ball off her shoulder and the water works ensued.  That signaled our time to go, as we were the last ones on the field.  Dave was trying to hit pop ups for Brandon, who was catching them better.  Peyton just got in the way when Brandon threw it back.  Oopsies.  She eventually stopped crying.  We went home for the kids to eat round two of their dinner, before going to take baths and turning in. Both reminded me they didn’t practice piano, so we’ll squeeze some time in before lessons tomorrow.

Our Day

Today, we did some work in the morning, before heading out to start our fun.  I decided to feed the kids lunch first before we headed out, so we could last longer.  Both were hungry even though it was just after 11 am.  They’d just eaten breakfast at 8 am, but they still ate their lunch – a full turkey sandwich for Brandon, and turkey lettuce cups for Peyton.  Both had a bunch of tomatoes, and each had an apricot.  I think we got the wrong milk with my last purchase.  It seems thicker than our usual milk, and the kids complain about it a bit.  “It tastes differently,” and “I don’t like it” was what I heard.  We headed to our destination from yesterday, and Brandon asked, “What if we see Mckayla there?”  I told them that she probably wouldn’t be there today.  Last time, Michelle and I had coordinated a meet up, but this time, I hadn’t made contact, and the likelihood of it happening in the middle of the week was low.  We arrived, and we checked out downstairs. Nothing had changed much, but they loved the marbles in the cone and the light exhibit.  Upstairs, it seemed the same exhibits were there as the last time, but the kids did find some differences.  We were asked if it was okay to take pictures, so I signed a waiver.  It was odd having someone take pictures of us trying to look like there wasn’t someone taking pictures.  Brandon didn’t care, but Peyton didn’t really know what to do.  I tried to engage her in the exhibits so she’d forget about the flash going off.  Then, we looked up, and we saw….Mckayla!!  I’d forgotten she had camp there, and it was just starting for the afternoon.  She looked stunned to see us, and all three of us calling out her name.  She did give us a smile, but I think she was not placing us out of context.  And she didn’t want to be late for class!  Peyton wanted to join her as she saw the group in a circle.  I had to pull her away and convince her to go back downstairs.  We walked across to the bookstore, and they had fun looking at all the books.  Peyton wanted to look at all the older chapter books like Brandon.  We tried to look around for the bakery, but I didn’t find it, so I headed back to the car.  We went home for a nap, then when they got up, we played some games.  Peyton was coloring, while I played two rounds of Battleship with Brandon.  We split wins.  Dave came home a bit early, then we all changed to head to the pool.  The club had set up a floating obstacle course in the pool.  Dave went in with each of them, even though the minimum age was 6 years, it was more if the kids could swim or not.  The kids didn’t think they’d make it there, but they had been doing laps in the short end of the pool.  Peyton owed us 10, while Brandon owed us 5 for being silly on our way there.  Here’s the video of Peyton getting to the obstacle course.  I love it how she tries to help Dave up once she gets up the platform.  Brandon had already gone so I didn’t get video, and he didn’t want to go again, but Peyton wanted to go another time.  Brandon later changed his mind, and he went a second time before we headed to shower up and eat there.  Tomorrow we’ll head to the city to visit Tai po, and then there’s baseball in the evening.  Peyton and I will go to the gym for my class!

Conversationalist!

My phone rang twice this morning before we left the house. Both times, Peyton asked if she could answer it, and I let her.  The first was my mom, and she put her on speakerphone and proceeded to carry on a conversation with her.  My mom had to ask her if I was aware that she was on the phone, and where I was.  I chimed in that I was listening, even though Peyton had commandeered the conversation.  In fact, after awhile, there was something I needed upstairs, so I took off. First Day of the Last Week of Summer

This is my first day of the last week of summer for the kids.  We started with a little “school”, doing a few vocab words and one chapter of the book.  Peyton kept herself busy with some of her own books.  Then, we headed out.  Initially, I was going to go to Helix, but I gave the kids a choice between that or painting pottery and/or glass art.  They chose the latter.  We then headed further up north.  I was hoping to get Peyton to do something different from Brandon, as there were many things from which to choose to paint or the glassware.  I told them they had to take their time, and there was no rushing things.  Either of them have the potential to rush, but Brandon especially.  After taking a few minutes to look around, Peyton was set on doing “whatever Brandon is doing”.   Then I pointed out three HK pieces.  She stuck to her guns, while Brandon said he wanted to make a votive holder out of glass.  Peyton looked at it, then said, “Oh, I want to paint.”  I asked her what she wanted to paint, and then she pointed to HK.  There was a figurine, a box and top, and a dish.  She chose the figurine.  The assistant set us up at the front table, away from summer camp, which was nice as the kids were getting distracted by the group.  Each of them got set up, and I went back and forth between them, helping with supplies.  Finally, I decided to do a piece on my own.  I’d never had both kids in a ceramic studio, so I wanted to do their handprints.  I asked them for their favorite colors – well, Peyton, I knew, and Brandon selected green.  The attendant offered assistance with the handprints, which I gladly accepted.  She helped me pick out coordinating colors and then helped with each kid’s print.  Brandon worked meticulously on his glasswork, while Peyton did a number on HK.  She kept changing her mind, from a white face to a purple glittery one.  I didn’t want to interfere, but at one point, after she’d done the eyes, it looked like HK was having a bad day with mascara!  I helped her clean it up a bit, and used a smaller tip for the eye detail.  She insisted on eye lashes, and NO whiskers, even though there were grooves for them.  Brandon did a great job doing everything on his own, but at one point, he showed me a bloodied thumb and said, “Look, how did this happen?”  I told him he was working with glass, and he had to be careful.  I sent him to get a bandage from the attendant, and he came back wrapped up already.  I told him if he was done, to stop touching the pieces.  He didn’t even know which piece cut him!  Again, I warned him about the danger of glass and how quickly it can cut.  Kinda scary, but at least it was superficial.

We ended up being gone for about 3 hours, way longer than I’d expected!  We wrapped things up, and then we headed home for lunch.  I got them a quick lunch of turkey lettuce wraps, tomatoes, and cheese before sending them down for a quick nap.  We had swimming at 3 pm, so I was rushing the nap process.  Peyton slept just 30 minutes, and was groggy, but at least they’d changed into swim clothes before nap.  I was worried I’d have to wake her, and changing her in that condition would’ve been trouble.  We made it to swimming with about 10 minutes to spare, and both kids were warned to listen.  They actually did really well.  Both gave good effort, and they are progressing.  At one point, Ms Sarah asked them if they wanted to learn to dive.  They’d done it before, but she wanted them to go to the deep end. She let them race down to the deep end, and both made it successfully.  While Peyton was in the pool, she was doing her strokes, and stopping every 2 arms to side breathe. She was making her way, methodically, and the lady next to me turned to tell me, “She’s so cute!”  At that point, she was only breathing every 4 arms, and was chugging away across the width of the pool in front of us. I’m glad Peyton didn’t hear her, or she may have gotten a complex over being watched.  After the lesson, I got them out of the pool, wrapped them up, and walked back to the car.  We came home, they both changed, and then each kid practiced piano for their assignments for the week.  They had incentive to finish as we would be heading to the park for them to scooter.  We carried them over to the park, and then Peyton had to sit out for not listening earlier in the day before nap.  She had a 10 minute time out, while Brandon rode around the park. I started my run, and did a few laps before releasing Peyton.  In all, I got 3 miles in, while the kids scootered around.  It was time to go, and then we headed back home.  Dave wasn’t back yet, so both showered up, and then I told them they could play a game only if they played nicely.  They got two games, and that’s how Dave found us when he came in.  Both kids were super hungry for dinner, and I had to explain why.  Peyton was excited to tell Dave all about their day.  She even told him about the motorcycle versus car accident we saw.  Luckily, everyone was alright, but the bike was laid down.

First Story

I had a worksheet that I’d printed out for Brandon last year.  I decided to give it to Peyton to keep her busy while Brandon did work one day.  Here’s her story, modified from “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”, where nothing goes right for the main character.  Her story is entitled “Peyton Tsao and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” written and illustrated by Peyton.

Museum Day #2

After yesterday with only one scooter, Dave went to go get another. He bought a wider one with larger wheels for Peyton. We took them back to campus and parked closer to the museum. But instead of signing up early, we had them scooter to the T&C shopping center. We grabbed lunch outside of the museum. After lunch, the kids scootered back, while we jogged alongside them. Peyton was much more comfortable with the larger platform, and she was getting around better. Peyton and I signed up for the 1230 pm tour and the one o’clock art demonstration again while Dave and Brandon put the scooters away. Peyton wanted to go back and see the Three Shades, so we went back through the room to look at the Lion, the Babies and then the Three Shades. Dave found us, and we hung around for 5 minutes before the tour started. The docent took us to the Native American art, which was a different than last week. We never even went into this room, so it was great that we were lead here. I’m not even sure we would’ve found it on our own. We were learning about totem poles, and how they used to be made of wood, then argilite, a type of stone only found in British Columbia. There were fewer kids, and Brandon was one of the older, which was not the case last week. Given that he was one of the older kids, there was more pressure on him to answer questions. He did answer a few after raising his hand (in what country is British Columbia?). I helped him on some of them, so he could feel confident to raise his hand. But the other answers, like what animals he saw in the carvings was all him. After our tour in this room, we headed down to the art studio.  The kids were going to make their own totem poles out of clay.  They were supposed to represent our family.  Brandon was so excited to get to play with clay; he kept turning around to give us giddy smiles, trying to contain himself.  This was not lost on the docent, who caught our gazes and had to smile along with him.  She kept turning around to us, since we were not sitting directly with him, trying to give them some room.  This time, Peyton did her own artwork, as I’d suggested she cut her piece of clay into four pieces, so she could stack them up.  She got the idea to make supports through each piece with a toothpick, like rebar.  She chose to paint hers afterward, while Brandon wanted to keep his au naturale.
After our project, we went home and had a family nap!  All four of us slept, even Dave, which is unusual!  Actually, before going down, Brandon told us, “Well, I’m not going to go to sleep, I’m just going to lie in my bed and do nothing.”  Well, he got bored of it, and when I went to go check and see what he was up to,  I found him sound asleep.  It may have been a close call to see who went down first…  When the kids woke up (Peyton first, then Brandon 30 minutes later – again, he wasn’t tired?  Riiiight…), they got to watch a little TV while I made a TJ’s run.  Then, Dave and Brandon headed to practice.  I cleaned up, and then walked over with Peyton.  Dave brought her scooter, so she rode around the parking lot, while Dave and I threw a baseball together.  He was trying to get me to break in Brandon’s glove, but that meant he was throwing it to me hard!  At one point, my fingers were tingling!  Good thing it’s my right hand, but still, I told him not to hurt me, since I had the kids all week long!  We threw for about 45 minutes, stopping to watch Brandon’s at-bats, or helping Peyton adjust the scooter.  After practice, we headed to the new shave snow place that opened up.  We’d driven by when we got home from LA, but it was too crowded to wait.  Since we had no timeframe this time, we decided to try again.  There was no line!  We tried both the green tea and blueberry, since we couldn’t decide.  The kids are still on their ban, so they split a savory crepe.  It was too much for us, and I was shivering by the time we were done.  Luckily, Peyton is a heater!  She wrapped her arms around my arms, and it was like a warm blanket.  I decided to take her to the car after we were done.  Dave stopped by 85 degrees, since the kids said they were both still hungry after splitting the crepe.  It always happens if we eat dinner too early and then do something physical.  They just get so hungry!  They are eating machines.  20140810_124937 20140810_130421 20140810_130759 20140810_131517 20140810_131534 20140810_131645 20140810_132008 20140810_132308 20140810_205857pink = herself, yellow = me, blue = Dave, and red = Brandon; I laughed  because Dave’s head is the biggest.  And her “signature” happy face with the vertical nose line is still in effect…

Split Day

This morning, Brandon had a lot of work to do, since he was busy with camp all week. Dave took Peyton out to get her out of here to be less of a distraction. He was to be gone for at least 5 hours, but to come back before naptime. This allowed Brandon to read and do his vocab with me. Dave came home with 20 minutes left (I had a clock running; when Brandon messed around, the clock timer stopped). We finished up reading, while Dave and Peyton ate their lunch. They did a lot – baseball, library, the historical museum of LA, and breakfast! Peyton came home still spunky, not as tired as I would’ve thought. Brandon had already eaten, so he watched the Little League world series play, while Peyton napped. After she woke up, we practiced piano with both, then we headed out for some exercise. Dave has to walk to a destination, so we parked at the trail head y our house, and we walked to ST. It’s about a mile and a half to get there. Peyton had Brandon’s scooter, which he was NOT happy about. He sulked the entire way there. Peyton was just the opposite! She was giddy, bouncing all over the place, while trying to get her pads and helmet on. I was tracking our walk and forgot to take a picture of her! We got there quickly, much more quickly than we had the last time we walked, probably 2 years ago. THAT time dragged…but I can imagine, as Peyton would’ve only been 3. We ate dinner, and then we headed back home, but not before running into the Kao’s after their movie. We stopped to chat a bit, then we headed on our way. I told him to hurry, or Brandon would pee on our lawn! We made it back, which was 4.5 miles in total. Brandon and I raced a few times over the trail. Dave says he can beat me, if we’re running 30 feet, but otherwise, he has no stamina. After our first race, I was determined not to lose. I had to struggle to keep ahead of him. Brandon gave up racing with me, and instead decided to race cars when we were on the sidewalk. Crazy kid! He even told me that the cars sped up when they saw him racing. Again, he’s nuts! And Brandon just told me, “No cell phones or computers, please!”
