End of the Year T-ball Party

This morning, Peyton had her end of the year party for t-ball at the park where they play baseball. Dave took off with Peyton first, then Brandon and I walked over after he finished up cleaning his room. Some families had arrived by then, and breakfast was set up. The kids had bagels, cream cheese, fruit, carrots and celery sticks, hummus, lox, crackers and cheese, and then Jewish cake and cookies. Everything was yummy, and the kids all took turns playing in the park and around the food area. Brandon was particularly excited about Daniel’s brother, who showed up. He also played in Brandon’s division, though he is 10, turning 11. Even though there was a half-foot height difference, both got along well with one another. Later, they played catch (luckily, Dave had Brandon’s glove in the car), and they kept each other entertained despite being the eldest in the group.  We stayed for about 2 hours, and we had to gather kids up.  There was a nice speech made by the parents on the team about Dave, then one of the boys handed Dave a box.  He opened it, and it was a mug with the team photo along with a gift certificate.  It turned out nicely!  It was so hot, even in the shade, that we were all sweaty leaving the park.  We quickly came home, changed, and went out to the pool at the club. This is why the membership was purchased!  The kids did well, practicing, and each of them did a lap with Dave across the deep end of the pool.  (The pool starts out at 4 then goes to 11 before going back to 4 feet.)  I’m not strong enough of a swimmer to take them along with me, with them grabbing onto me.  I can now tread water for over 30 seconds, which was our swim test, and I made it back and forth on the lap, but still not strong enough to safely swim with them.  We stayed about an hour, then showered up and returned home for naps.  Brandon had practice from 5 to 7 pm, so we wanted to get him in for a nap, too. Luckily, he did fall asleep, too, and he slept for over an hour.  Dave had to go get him up for practice; he had the parents’ meeting while the kids were warming up.  While they were there, Peyton had gotten up, and she was grumpy.  She laid around for awhile, then she wanted to “learn”.  We did this for awhile, then left to get groceries.  We came back, and ate some dinner, before Brandon and Dave returned.  Brandon had a good practice, and his bat has returned!  He’s hitting balls again, so that’s a good thing.  We wanted to wrap up our weekend with ice cream, so after Brandon showered again, we headed out.  I got to drive the new car, and the kids were telling me about it, since it was my first time being in the car.  It made me nervous, since Dave was side-seat driving.  We finally arrived at our destination, and then we enjoyed our scoops before heading home (with Dave behind the wheel).  We’ve backed up bedtime a bit, since both napped, but hopefully they will get up tomorrow, as it is the last week of school for Brandon!  We’re planning play dates for the summer, even family ones, so each kid is happy with a friend!  So glad to get involved with the neighborhood, and have a good time with neighbors and teammates!  That was one of the reasons we wanted to get involved with sports, to meet people in our area, and get the kids connected with their school and beyond.  The team parents asked if Dave would be coaching pioneer (the next level), and one dad even told Peyton that she was going to be better than her brother (right in front of Brandon – talk about getting him going!) if she continued the way she was.  Maybe that will get her to practice more.
Here are the pics from this past weekend…

While we were driving back from ice cream, we were playing with Dave’s radio and phone pairing.  There was a lag on the Pandora ID, and Peyton wanted to know what song/artist was on.  I told Peyton, “Imagine Dragons, ‘Demons’.”  She told me, “Well, I just want to see it on the radio, and see if you’re right, Mommy.”  I told her, “Um, excuse me, I am right!”  The nerve…
