My Summer!

My summer with the kids has begun. I set out with lofty goals for my first free Friday with them. First, I was keeping BOTH home from school, while both could technically go to school. We did Brandon’s assignment that I imposed, and surprisingly, there was no complaint. He just knew that he had to read one book, with the quiz at the end. While Brandon was doing this, Peyton was asking me for more spelling words. She did that and read her library books. She was looking up words she didn’t know (Fancy Nancy definitely stretches the vocabulary) with our new dictionary. She’d get distracted looking for the words, perusing the pictures as well as other words before finding the definition that she was initially looking. Finally, we all got changed and ready for the pool. We were going to make use of our family gym membership. We headed out with pool noodles. I was afraid it was too cold, but the sum was coming out, and it felt warmer than the weather site had said. There were not many people there at the pool, so it was nice to have the kiddie area to ourselves. The kids were asked to do some swimming, and they were given time to play, too. We were in the water for about 45 minutes, then out  for about 5 minutes to warm up and dry off.  Then, I headed over to the outside showers with Brandon, soaping him up with shampoo with his suit on. After he dried out, then I sent him to the children’s restroom to change his clothes. I gave him a bag, and checked him into the kids’ room while I headed over to shower up Peyton and myself.  We took about 15 minutes to get all set, then we headed back to get Brandon.  I fed them lunch (PB&J – we did have bread), carrots, green beans, and milk.  The science museum was next on our agenda.  It didn’t open until 1 pm, but I wanted to get our clothes in the wash, feed them lunch, and then pack for my grandma’s house.  We got all the done, then we headed out. Michelle had texted me that they were headed there, too, but I didn’t want to tell the kids because they would get too excited!  We drove around looking for parking for awhile before finding a spot. Right in front of Michelle!  We headed to the museum, and when we walked into the door, Brandon stopped and whispered, “Mommy, there’s Auntie Michelle!”  The kids kind of said hi to each other; they had no problem the night before, but somehow got shy today.  We met Mckayla’s classmate Eli.  The four kids had their run of the place, as it wasn’t too crowded. I did tell them that they could touch most things there , but to NOT put their hands in their faces or mouths.  Sounds easy enough, right?!  We stayed for about an hour or so, and then it was a bit of a struggle to get out of there.  They were having too much fun!  We had to work our way backwards, getting out of the second story, to the first story, and then out of the gift  shop area.  Finally we all walked back to the car. buy levitra This is a huge health risk we are putting ourselves into. I had about 30 minutes to myself, but I was soooo tired. I almost needed them to keep me up!  We pulled off the freeway, and “Happy” came on the radio. I tried to turn it, but as soon as I did, Peyton sprung to life, and said, “OH!”  which then woke Brandon up.  Oh well, I’d wanted them to sleep more, but at least it was something. I hung out with my grandma, aunt and uncle with them, for quite awhile. I wasn’t needed at the art museum until 7:30 pm so I left around 640 pm, after the kids ate dinner. Both ate a lot, since it was later than they normally eat.  My grandma knows what they like, so Peyton had two bowls of food!  Good thing she also knows they eat broccoli, so they had their share of that.  I left them with instructions to go to sleep at 9 pm.

I met Dave at the museum right before we were let in.  The reception was laid out with quite the spread – sushi station, salads, protein station, and Asian dim sum station.  No desserts!  I guess they are catering to those who specialize in diabetes.  It would have been healthy had we not loaded up!  We did still look around the exhibits, which were pretty fascinating and OLD!  The last time we were there for Kathleen’s wedding,  we were in wedding mode, and we weren’t allowed in the exhibits.  We did reminisce about the wedding venue, as another food set up was in the room that we had the reception.  We stayed a few hours before heading back.  It was 945 p, and as we walked in the door, my grandma said, “I can’t get them to sleep!” She said she tried to separate them in the back rooms, but they ended up together in the living room.  Oh well; we thanked them, and then left.  We still had to go back and get Dave’s car at his work since he’d cabbed it up to the conference.  Brandon was up, and I told Dave to take him.  Then Peyton got up, and was so sad that she couldn’t go with him.  She almost had the door slam on her because she had followed Brandon.  Dave told her to stay put, and she cried and cried.  I told him to take her since I didn’t want her to cry for the next 30 minutes home.  And I’d been with them all day, so it was his turn.  He came back to open up the backseat door, and she immediately stopped crying and perked up.  She waved bye to me from the backseat, and they headed out first with me behind them.  I told them both to not come out until 8 pm.  They both fell asleep on the way home, which meant Dave had luggage to bring in.  Luckily, Brandon woke up, so he only had the carry-on, not the check-in.  We’ll see how they do tomorrow morning, and see if they listen.
