This one was particularly far due to the early traffic we hit, in addition to the usual traffic on the way back. We had Daxton, Tanishka, and Peyton.  Tanishka was a piece of cake!  She followed whenever and wherever asked.  Peyton was easy this time, as she had the threat of me not being asked back last time she was fussy.  Actually, she slept on the way up, so I just had Daxton and Tanishka to watch, but they were pretty good. Daxton is a boy. Enough said 🙂  Peyton woke up when we got close to the museum, so she and I spelled out words. She likes me to give her a letter, and she will come up with both an animal and food, and then spell both.  She has fun, and will learn along the way. Win-win!  When we arrived, we stopped to have snack, then we headed out on our own.  The kids were happy wherever we were, and there was plenty of stuff to entertain them.  We stopped for lunch, and I’m more aware to bring my own now.  Dave had gotten me a sandwich last night.  The school provides sandwiches, but they’re kind of anemic, and for some reason, there is butter on one of the slices.  Peyton has now started to take out that slice of bread, and mush the sandwich back together.  They get plenty of carbs in the Doritos and fruit cup, so I’m not worried about her starving.  I’m also the “not cool” chaperone, as I will dump out their juice in the fruit cup. For one, it’s less potential for a spill and stickiness, and two, it’s SO much sugar!  One girl told me it’s supposed to be slurped up. Daxton told her that I was helping him open it, and Peyton told her the juice wasn’t good for her and to stop telling (my mom) what to do.  Haha…go team!  Oh ya, and to top off their lunch, they get a full juice pouch.  I left Peyton’s at home, and I had her water bottle ready, which she asked for.  We hit one more section at the end, even though Daxton wanted to go play in the outside area.  But he ended up having the most fun in that room; it was called Broken – Fix it!  It was all about how things break, and how to put them back together.  There was a fake car, and you got to change a tire, put gas into it, and steer.  Each kid took a fancy to a different part of the car, so they all got along. Tanishka drove the car for a long time, while Peyton was putting gas and oil into it.  Actually, Peyton enjoyed putting oil into the gas (reminds me to keep her away from my car!) and Daxton changed the tire over and over.  The exhibit had different tools, and the instructions had “righty-tighty, lefty-loosey” so the kids were practicing that.  I’d asked them why they were called “Hex” keys. They knew!  Peyton practiced sewing a big button on to a fake sleeve with a rope.  She threaded the eye of the needle, and then sewed it on.  There was a little trial and error as to how to weave the needle through, and she took a few stabs at it before having it look right.  She tried to weave it in the same hole she’d just come out of, and that didn’t work out well.  She was determined to get it.  There were broken pieces of melamine China – a bowl and a plate – to put back together.  I think thy spent 30 minutes in here!  More than any other area.  Finally, it was time for us to go, and the kids had gummy snacks on the way out.  The bus ride back was as expected.  A few kids talking (those behind me), while the rest of the bus is asleep.  Peyton told me, “I’m not tired, remember?  I slept here?”  She wanted to talk and play, but by the time we crossed back over the GG bridge, she wanted to put her head in my lap (it was only 10 minutes).  She curled up, and fell asleep again.  She definitely has Mah genes.  Tanishka and Daxton fell asleep on each other, each holding the other up.  It was adorable.  I was semi-asleep, since the girls behind me were all chatting.  Poor Joel had Sydney asleep in his lap, but he was talking the whole while to his other two girls – Olivia and Neha.  They talked the WHOLE way back.  They were trying to talk to me, and tap me on the head, but I ignored them.  They don’t even call me “Peyton’s mom”.  I’m “Robyn”, which is weird to me.  I’d rather be “Peyton’s mom”!  We made it safely back to school, and after Peyton grabbed some snack, we were on our way.  I had plans to take her to the club to swim.  Dave was going to meet me there with Brandon after.  While we were there, we saw Eric, Diana and Alexis there.  We each never knew the other were members.  We headed to the deeper end, while they took Alexis to the shallow end.  Peyton and I were in the water for 45 minutes or so.  She is getting more comfortable in the water, and was showing me her side stroke.  We even “went past the blue line” (that’s the line that separates the 4.5 foot area from the 5 foot area).  That’s the line I wouldn’t let her cross in the past because I can’t stand beyond it.  There was no one in our area, so I felt more comfy to go beyond that line.  It gave her more room to swim around.  She can’t stand in any of the area at this part of the pool.  She was trying to touch the bottom with her hand.  She wanted rings, and even walked around half the pool to find them to no avail.  It was breezy outside of the water, so I stayed in while she went in search.  She came back, and still worked on getting down to touch the bottom of the pool.  This was totally her idea.  She knows she can’t get there without assistance, so she is determined to be able to do this.  She did do it twice, and she was proud of herself.  Since Dave and Brandon never showed up, we went to go get showered up.  By the time we got out, Dave texted that he and Brandon were in the water.  By the time I headed out there, he’d already gotten out.  I told him to meet us at the play structure. I let Peyton climb around a bit before they came over.  Dave told me he’d lost his ring somewhere “trying to text me”.  I showed him my rings, and my phone, and made the argument I had both.  So, he went to backtrack steps, while I watched the kids shoot baskets.  Each picked an appropriately sized ball, but the rim was way too short.  Dave came back triumphant (the ring was in one of the folds in his bag).  Lucky him.  That would’ve made this month REALLY bad for him.  We headed to happy hour at the sushi place, and the kids shared a chicken teriyaki, minus the teriyaki.  Dave and I shared our favorite rolls.  We headed home, but again both kids wanted to ride with him.  So I got some “me” time in my own car.  When we got home, Brandon read his book that is required for today, and then Peyton practiced piano.  Peyton was sent upstairs while it was Brandon’s turn to work on a few pages.  Dave didn’t want him staying up too late, since he has his tournament tomorrow.  They didn’t put up any fight going to sleep tonight. Both have had a full week.
