Performance and A What?

Today was busy again, rushing back and forth. I went to work at dark o’clock, and worked until I got an alert on my work calendar. I’d forgotten about Brandon’s Starting Arts performance. Luckily, I set the alarm 30 minutes before I needed to leave, so I hustled a bit more to make some calls before going. I left right before 10 am, arriving to school about 5 minutes before the presentation. I signed in, got my sticker, and went to the performing arts class. This time, I was the second party to arrive, and I sat first row center. The other guy was in a wheelchair, and he was relegated to one chair on the side. The class filed in and sat in their spots. The first performance was Goldilocks and the Three Bears with a twist. The students were given the plot, and they were encouraged to tweak it a bit. Here’s the first scene, which Brandon was in. He didn’t acknowledge me at all, not a smile, not a wave. Here’s the finale.  Geez! Next, they did a few activities, and I wanted to stand, but now I was in the first row, and would block others. Oh well. I think he was hiding from me, purposely picking a back row spot. Here’s Honey I Love You, (that’s Bella in the overalls, Brandon’s Secret Santa recipient, and he’s been bugging us to get a gift for her otherwise he won’t get one himself),  where they try to make each other laugh and break character.  After the performance, I headed back to work. I finished up a little later, to account for the time missed, and then I went to pick up the kids. We had about an hour before the dental appointment, but since it had just started raining, I decided to head straight there to beat any traffic. We got there about 20 minutes early, and Brandon did some of his homework, while Peyton played with the ipad. They called Brandon back first, while I waited with Peyton. I wanted to find out about her incoming tooth, and figured Brandon would do just fine without me. After a few more minutes, they brought Peyton back. She had x-rays to take, so she did that while Brandon was mostly finishing up. While they cleaned Peyton, I chatted with the dentist about Brandon. He had a sore spot where an adult tooth grew into a baby one, forming a little notch in it. The dentist thought that it wasn’t a cavity, but perhaps a sore spot. He went to pick his prize and got his no cavity award, and then I moved on to Peyton. Peyton was just finishing up, and the dentist moved on to her. While Brandon had spots that were missed being brushed, Peyton’s were okay. Except, on x-ray, the dentist noticed a cavity between two molars!! Waaaah! It was in a tough spot, and the dentist said even his own son had a cavity in the same spot (and that kid has two parents who are dentists). So, Peyton didn’t get a sticker on the wall (though the hygienist forgot and made out one, then scrapped it after she’d realized what she’d done), but she got to pick a prize and a balloon, and she earned another trip back to the dentist in a month or so. We booked our appointments, then headed home. This double appointment took a lot longer than I imagined even though both were relatively at the same time. We didn’t get home until after 5 pm, as I was avoiding the freeway going home. We drove by the condo, and down by WF, before turning to go home. Both kids read their books while I got food on the table. Dave’s commute home was long, too, since it was a wet one. We squeezed piano in, and there was no time for anything else. Nighttime for Peyton at 7 pm, and Brandon 30 minutes later as he was re-writing his messy homework. He kept asking to go to sleep by 7pm too, so it was taking a bit longer for him. It’s definitely getting colder, and I think the kids are in a hibernation state, going to sleep earlier and waking up later.
