Christmas Week Recap

I had to work this year, so I headed into work around 730 am while Dave took the kids up to my mom.  CDC was open, but since I was only working a half day, and it was on his way, Dave didn’t mind dropping them off.  They went to go run some errands with my mom.  I came to get them around 130 pm, after they’d already napped.  Dave was out with work friends eating lunch, and we picked him up from work.  It was stormy by then, and Dave had wanted to go shopping in the City.  I didn’t want to brave the weather, so I told him I’d rather not go.  He didn’t disagree as it poured on the way to my grandma’s house.  We all hung out, and the kids watched movies.  Peyton helped me with a puzzle, and then we had our dinner.  My mom had told the kids to take a long nap so they could stay up until midnight.  That used to be the tradition for us, but recently, we never made it.  The kids petered out by then, but this time, they powered through.  Dave was losing it, and he kept asking us when we can open presents, through Peyton, of course.  She’d come ask me, “Daddy wants to know when we can open presents.”  The kids sorted the presents right before midnight, and everything was opened within 20 minutes.  We packed up the car, and headed back to Dave’s work to get his car.  He headed home, while my mom and I went back to drop her off with two sleeping kids.  Dave helped me get them in the house when I finally made it back.  I was too excited myself as we put out cookies and carrots (per Peyton’s request) for Santa and the reindeer, respectively.  I finally headed to bed, and then was awakened by the kids, excited to open presents.  They all headed down, while Dave made them breakfast.  They ate, and then I joined in the festivities.  Both kids were excited that Santa had delivered presents!  image imageWe filmed them opening their gifts, and then we packed up the car to head out to my mom’s.  She’d already made it up there, but it took us a long time because of some accidents along the way.  The kids and I took a nap, while Dave drove us safely up there.  We had dinner at home, and the kids got to stay up a bit playing their new video game.

The next morning, we had a leisurely breakfast, then headed up to the snow.  Brandon took a snowboarding lesson, (he’s the one in the middle in bright yellow), while Peyton enjoyed tubing. and snow angeling. imageHis eagle eye even and spotted me watching him.  I could tell because he waved at me.  He was also playing with an ice chunk, and I instructed him to put it down.  He did toss it, and he gave me the thumbs up sign.   Both were finished about the same time, then we headed to downtown Truckee.  Dave had never been.  We walked around for a little bit, then headed for a bite to eat.  I went to shop for awhile while walking back to the car.  We checked into the hotel, having some warm treats fresh out of the oven.  We headed to the room for showers and relaxation.  The kids stayed up later than usual again, and then we headed to bed.  The kids both fell asleep watching Dave and me play our new video game.  We went to sleep finally, too, and we started our morning bright and early.  We had a 9 o ‘clock timeshare presentation to make, but breakfast was included with our stay.  We got the kids fed and ready for the day. It had gotten really cold overnight, as we had snow flakes/frost on the car, and the water we left in the car froze!

We attended the presentation, while the kids went to the club.  We picked them up after we declined the offer, and both were looking like zombies.  We headed to the snow park again, but this time Peyton wanted to ski and Brandon didn’t.  She took a monster power nap in the car, waking up just as we parked.  She had no idea where she was.  We went to get in line for half day rentals for her, but we were there in the afternoon, on a Saturday, during a holiday.  The staff stopped the line for rentals, as they were out of gear!  We’d already waited about 30 minutes in line, with the masses.  We headed out of line, then we headed back down the mountain to my mom’s again.  We stopped at Target to pick up some more figures for our games, and to buy the kids their presents that my uncles had given me money for.  They each picked out their allotted dollar amounts and went home happy campers.  We showered up, and we hung out with my mom for the night.  In the morning, Dave woke us up and headed us out of the house early.  He wanted to make the half-day morning lesson for Peyton.  Brandon didn’t want to go, but we dragged him anyway, literally, in his PJ’s and no socks, thinking he’d change his mind.  He was just being lazy, and he ended up coming around before getting out of the car. He did change on his own, and he was enthusiastic.  So Brandon was on a board, Peyton with skis, and I went to stake out a place to sit for the day.  imageThe lessons were from 1030 to 1230 pm.  After we rented their stuff, I got them breakfast to chow down before their lesson.  Dave dropped them off, and came back with his own rentals.  He ate a little bit, then headed out to watch both kids and text me with updates.  He brought them both back, and Peyton ate the rest of what Dave had saved from his pasta.  She said she wasn’t that hungry, which was surprising.  Peyton and I pottied, as I was concerned with leaving our stuff unattended.  Dave and Brandon went out to go up on the mountain on the lifts.  Peyton was texting on our PS Vita, and I told her to text my mom instead.  Here’s her communication with her on that…image image

Brandon finally came back, and Peyton quickly headed out to replace him.  Brandon didn’t mind, and he played on Minecraft on his game for awhile while I read.  After awhile, the man at the table next to me got my attention to ask me, “Is that your kid out there?”  I’d turned around to see Peyton waving at me outside.  She came in, and Brandon went out.  While he was out, she played games, but was not nearly as patient.  She kept asking when Brandon would be back, and I hadn’t known when that would be.  It was nearing time for the lifts to close, so I was preparing Peyton they may not have time.  She told me, “I’m just going to get ready to go out,” as she put her gloves and helmet on.  She was ready to go image, and Brandon came in shortly thereafter.  He told me Dave went to go return his stuff, but Peyton was already out there looking for him.  She went out for another round before we all headed out to return their stuff.  Neither kid wanted to leave, but we told them it was time.  We told them we would come back next month.  Too bad Peyton can’t take advantage of a few more days…she is free until 6 years of age!  I contemplated keeping her up with my mom so my mom could take her up there.  All she’d need were rentals.  My mom had to come back by new year’s eve anyway, but it was just a thought, as Dave didn’t think she could handle it so many days in a row.  We headed back to my mom’s for dinner again.  Dave picked up some Mexican food to try out.  We sent the kids to an earlier bedtime, though I’d already caught Peyton asleep on our way back down from the mountain.
