Academic Assessment

Today, I went into Peyton’s class as art helper. As I was sticking and labeling artwork, the teacher was grading papers. She whispered to me that Peyton had done her reading assessment, and she maxed out on the levels that the teacher had for kinders. Peyton was on “M”, and Mrs. M said her box only went up to M. I asked her what can be done to see how far she is, and Mrs. M said she may have to go to the upper grades or another higher grade level and get their materials. I told her about what Peyton had done with her reading online, and her quest for 1000 books before 1st grade. She also confirmed to me that she was TEACHING Peyton multiplication. So, Peyton wasn’t just doing it on her own, but Mrs. M told Peyton that she would “tell her mom that I’m teaching it to you” so she wasn’t bored. Mrs M said that Peyton does well when there is competition involved. She was team captain yesterday at PE, and she did a good job with that. I can just imagine! I told Mrs. M that I wanted Peyton to focus on all aspects of her learning, like life skills, not just the academics, but I’m happy to know she’s doing well with that, too.
