Super Saturday!

We started with Peyton’s game at 830 am. Well, we went to the field at about 8 am, and my mom had come in to town early to watch the kids play. We were the first of our teammates to come, so I warmed Peyton up by throwing her a few balls. I was under-hand pitching to her from my knee, and every other ball or so would be caught. One, I fired into her glove, and she caught it with a surprised look. After that, she wanted all the balls to go into the glove like that and wanted me to throw it hard at her. Soon, Lucia and her dad showed up, as well as Sydney and her mom. I was sufficiently warm by then, actually, quite sweaty, but then got super cold, as it was chilly out. Of course, Peyton wasn’t cold, and chose to wear her t-shirt only. There were only going to be 5 kids playing for our team, but Coach wanted to do coach-pitch today. Typically, they do it after game 3, but today WAS game 3. So, we were the visitors, meaning we were up first.
Here’s her first “live” at-bat!

I was a bit nervous for her; if she missed more than 5 balls, they’d bring out the tee for her. And I think she’d get upset if that were the case! Luckily, she connected!
Fielding was a bit tough, since they all had so much ground to cover, but Peyton played first base their first time out on the field. I missed it on video, but there was a ball hit right to pitcher, Sydney, who fielded the ball and threw it to Peyton on first for the put-out! It was our team’s first legitimate out (though it doesn’t count in t-ball).
Her second at-bat was out of the infield!
The coaches were amazed she got it out there, but it did roll a bit to help her cause.

The next inning, Peyton played pitcher. She had a harder time focusing, and had to be reminded a lot to pay attention. She also has a mental block about the pitcher’s circle. Unless the ball comes within the circle, she will not go out and get it. She just watches it go past her! She did field one and throw it to the first baseman.

Her final at-bat was the same spot of her other one, but she would have probably gotten tagged out, but glad she is making good contact!

We provided snacks today, and then headed over to Brandon’s game.
They were the home team. His first at-bat, Dave struck him out 🙁 The second at-bat, he fared better, getting on base.

I had/have a harder watching Brandon’s games because I have to watch Peyton! She was climbing in the tree with the other kids, outside the fence, and I had to go drag her back over. She was still in cleats! I had stuff for her to do, but she chose to hang out with the other kids, which was fine, until they started scaling the fences and climbing trees. She preferred to do somersaults on the grass behind us, which was better than climbing. Last time, during the week, she ate dinner for 3 innings, so that was helpful. This time, she’d already just eaten her snacks, so she didn’t stay seated.

She did join the team for a pep talk. They’d lost by a lot to a much larger team, but they definitely played their best. It was cute seeing Peyton right by coach, who was imparting words of wisdom to the boys. Then, we headed home, and the kids showered up before we headed out to lunch with my mom. After lunch, Peyton was sent for a nap, while I went to get a paper cutter refill at Michael’s. When I got back, Brandon was working on his book report for the month. Peyton was supposed to be sleeping, but she was just tossing and turning. Because I knew it was going to be a long night, I told her I’d go to sleep with her. She was yawning, telling me that she wasn’t tired. She did fall asleep as did I for at least an hour. When she got up, we went to work on her homework, then piano for both kids, then Peyton and I left to go get flowers for Ian. Brandon stayed behind to continue to work on his project. Then it was dinner time, and soon, Michelle and Mckayla came over for our carpool. We headed down with plenty of time, and Bonnie and Kathy were already there with Logan, Connor and Kira. We had a cluster of seats, and a great view of the stage! The kids were all excited, and Peyton asked again if they will kiss! All the kids were well-behaved and captivated by the performance. When the curtain closed for intermission, Peyton asked, “Is it over?” I told her it was intermission, then we all headed to the potty. It was pretty warm in the theater, and luckily, Bonnie shared a bottle of water with us! I poured half of the bottle into Brandon’s mouth, then handed Peyton the rest of the bottle to drink out of it. They don’t like sharing each other’s spit, which is a great thing. Brandon even commented, “Remember when I couldn’t even do this?” Glad he does…that’s why I poured it into his mouth versus the other way around, as I don’t think Peyton’s as coordinated. The second act started, and the kids went back into audience mode. I thought they’d be more restless, but they were all still totally into it. Peyton dropped my hand a few times to clap on her own! After the show, all the kids went on stage to present Ian with flowers. We took some pictures, then headed out on our drive. Mckayla, Brandon and Peyton were totally delirious, and were laughing at silly jokes they were telling each other. I was trying to distract Brandon, who was squished in between the two girls’ carseats, but once we started jokes, he joined in the laughter as usual. We reached home, and said goodbye. Brandon asked, “I wonder if Daddy is still awake.” The lights were on, but that’s not always an indication of wakefulness for him. He was there, and I had him send them off to bed. I gave them both hugs, and Brandon told me, “So we’re going to post pone our talks for tonight, right?” Aww, so sweet, he is now looking forward to our de-briefing sessions in the evenings. Here are the pictures from our busy day:
