An alarm woke us up this morning, but unfortunately, it was only 2:05 am, and it wasn’t our alarm. It was one that my mom was playing with as Brandon had asked her what it was. Dave went to turn it off, upstairs, and then came back. I got to sleep again, and then his actual alarm went off at 515 am. We got ready, then headed out to the train station. We took the subway in to town, and slowly more runners got on. It seemed like the closer we got, the more weirdly costumed they became. We got off at downtown, and we headed to the hotel to seek shelter from the cold. We used their potty, drank some water, and sat until it was closer to race time. Luckily, it warmed up in just the 30 minutes we were sitting around. We got into our corral and just waited. And took a selfie:
Both of us were setting up our media for the run, and then at 8 am, it was announced that the first group would start. After about 10 minutes, it was our group. We were in the second group to go, and we quickly moved to the race start. This was definitely better than our last go at this when we were grouped with a slower pace group. There were still some walkers, and I kept up with Dave for the first half mile, then it got too crowded. He also started to pick up speed, and I knew I couldn’t keep up with him for the long haul. I ran my own race, and we knew we’d met up with one another at the end. The weather was perfect, but the hill was brutal as ever. I finished up and went about the business of finding Dave. He had texted me a landmark, but unfortunately, there were duplicate tents. I found him at the far tent, and then we tried to figure out how we were getting back to our car. We ended up buying two tickets back on the shuttle. It took us back downtown, and dropped us off earlier than its route in front of the coffee place Dave likes. We stopped, of course, and then I ate an oatmeal there. But it was starting to get cold, since we were sweaty. We then headed back on the subway, getting a seat and riding back to the car. The kids had gone out to the Lego store with my parents, but they had come home by the time we were back. They’d gotten to the mall too early, so they did 45 minutes of walking before getting into the store. When they heard the door open and close, Peyton came out to inspect and say, “Hi, Mommy!” Brandon asked my mom who it was, and after she told him it was us, he said, “OH,” and continued to eat his lunch. Nice! I showered up, then I ate lunch, then Dave followed. Brandon was excited to tell me, “We got lots of Freebies at the Lego store!” I asked him what he got, and he said, “A calendar, a catalog, and a free Star Wars kit because we got $50 of things!” (So, it’s not “FREE”, but he included that because he doesn’t get it. (It never stops!) So, we came home, and Brandon was reading in the car, and I thought Peyton was, too. I asked that she not, so she didn’t get sick. She told me she wasn’t reading. Brandon confirmed, “No, she’s not reading, she’s just looking out at the sky, out the window.” Before long, I turned around, and this is what I saw…
