2/3 of a Triathlon

Today, the kids woke up and watched a movie on tv while Dave cut his hair, and I slept. After the movie was over, I’d already gotten myself ready to go. We were heading out on bike, for my first time on the street riding a bike as an adult. We rode when I was younger, on the hills and streets of my hometown, without lane markers, bike lanes, helmets, etc. So, this was a bit terrifying to me, especially having to watch the kids, too. We made it to the trail, and I felt a little more at ease. We had a quick breakfast, round two for the kids and Dave, and then turned around. When we got home, we put our things away, then we headed to the arts center for the Sunday art. We hadn’t done it since last year, but they occur every Sunday. We checked in, and we found out we were doing the same project we’d done before. What were the chances! We had the kids listen to the spiel, which I’m not sure if they remembered, then we headed to the art studio to create. This time, instead of clay-colored balls, they had colored balls. They were going to make family posts, like totem poles. They had four balls of clay, red, green, clay-colored, and brown. They were supposed to make a post with family members represented as animals. Brandon started with a turtle, he said was Daddy, then a bird (me), rat (peyton), and cat (Brandon), though he initially told me he was making a dog. Dave helped Peyton create a frog, rat, bird, and fish. After they were done, they hot glued their pieces to a piece of cardboard, and we were all done. We headed to the mall after to walk around, then came home to swim! It was hot, so we wanted to go to the pool to cool off. The kids practiced their laps for next week’s triathlon, as did Dave just for fun. We showered up, then headed for a Costco run to get food for the week. We ate dinner at home, and then we were watching the Pirates/Dodgers game. LA was up for a bit, then the pirates started coming back, and the three of them were all upset. I told them that they had to go to sleep by 8 pm, but Peyton asked me just a few minutes shy of that, “Can I go to bed now?” She had a busy day, working hard on her one speed bike.
One thing that Peyton said today that came out of nowhere was while I was going to throw a big box of unopened Chinese cookies that we’d been given out, Dave told me to take it to work. I told him it wasn’t kosher to bring that big of a box to the diabetes service, so he said he’d take them to work. Peyton blurted out, “Why don’t you just bring them for Terrence?” Terrence is Dave’s coworker that has diabetes, and they tease him that he doesn’t follow a carb-friendly diet sometimes! She’d overheard Danielle and Dave talk about it, I guess, but the timing of it, and the appropriateness of the comment made Dave laugh! He wonders what else she picked up by osmosis last week…hopefully it’s more history, and less of the other stuff…
