Yesterday, after nap and lunch, we dropped Peyton off at her troop leader’s house. S came out to say hello, then we transferred Peyton’s gear from our car to theirs. They went in to say hello to S’s dad and brother and say bye there. She had to go potty (again, don’t know why she didn’t go when we left the house), but she made her way to the potty first before coming back to say goodbye. Her dad came out and met Dave and Brandon. He asked Brandon what school he was going, and asked which grade. Brandon answered, and then he told him he’d see him in middle school. Brandon nodded respectfully, then S’s dad asked him, “Do you know what I do at the middle school?” Brandon shrugged and said no. He told him, “I’m the principal there.” Brandon didn’t say much, but in my mind, I was hoping Brandon didn’t have to spend too much time seeing S’s dad. We said goodbye, and we were off. We’d forgotten our transponder, so we went back home to get it. It cost about 30 minutes, but we were hoping it may save us time later. We set off on our drive, and it did help somewhat so we didn’t have to wait in line at the toll booths. We got up there in about 3 hours, having hit some traffic on our way up. My mom met us at the casino, and we found her playing some random slot by our meeting point. She was going to take Brandon to dinner at the buffet, while we went to go get quick food. They came back to see us again and told us that the buffet line was too long, and they’d go to get food at the cafe. We took our food and ate outside. It was a perfect evening, with the outside venue. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, and I was in a sleeveless dress. We had floor seats, 18 rows from the stage. We took one selfie before the show, and Dave scored a free t-shirt that was thrown off the stage. Some other shirts were being launched from cannons, but those were sent past us. The show was to start at 7 pm, and only after 15 minutes, the first performer, Babyface, made his way on to the stage. No pomp, no circumstance, just on the stage! He sang most of his older popular songs, and then launched into a medley of songs he’d written for other artists. This was my favorite part of his show, as in the past when I’d seen him. This was Dave’s first time seeing him, and he enjoyed this, too. He sang a song by James Taylor, another from Eric Clapton, and his other artists he’d collaborated.

He played for about an hour, then it was time to change sets for Boyz II Men. Dave and I were playing Name that Tune with some of the songs in between sets. They came on with a similar intro to that in Vegas, which Dave hadn’t seen either. Later, they, too, had a medley, from covers ranging from Ed Sheeran, Nirvana, and the Beatles!
Again, fun to hear songs from other artists in addition to their own songs. They went on for over an hour before calling it quits. There was no encore as I was hoping, but we exited the venue calmly. We went to the pool to see if the afterparty had started, but Dave just wanted to go home. We headed back and got home in 25 minutes. My mom left the door unlocked, though Brandon was worried about going to sleep with the door open. It was 11 pm, and we locked up behind us. We showered up to get the casino smoke off us, and then we headed to bed.
I was awoken by the ringing of the phone. I had no idea where I was, what time of the day it was, nothing! It took me a few seconds to realize where I was, and even longer for my heart rate to return to resting! It was good though, as we had time to clean up and get ready to go. Brandon was already up, and he ate breakfast, while Dave put my mom’s keyboard together as she’d requested. I wanted to get going back to Peyton. I hadn’t heard anything from them, which I figured was good news. We set out by 8 am with a stop by a coffee place for Dave. He’d been eyeing it for some time now. It was in downtown D, a college town. Brandon asked if he could go to school there. Dave didn’t want to have to come there to visit, since he wanted somewhere further away. I suggested Boston 🙂 Then, Dave got to thinking Brandon could go there for vintner’s school! Suddenly, he didn’t mind visiting him. We were on the road and projected to come back into town around 1030 am. I texted the troop leader by now, and then started getting pictures back! They were in their morning program, learning about more animals. They were going to be done by 10 am, and then they were allowed to go to the rides and other parts of the zoo. They were looking to be done by 11 am. So we got in to town, and we headed to a potty inside W-mart. Then, we waited in the parking lot for them to arrive. I saw them before they saw me, and Peyton turned and said, “MOMMY!” It was the sweetest! I walked over with them to their car to retrieve her belongings. I got a brief update about their time there, and found out they were the only troop/group for the overnight! They had a night program yesterday, and then a morning session. Peyton did a great job overnight, and in general. S, another troop leader, came up behind us with M, and she also told me that Peyton did an awesome job overnight. When I told Peyton to say a thank you, she suddenly became shy! Both of the leaders said that was not how she was before, and that she was jabbering away. She did get a hug and tickle in with S’s mom, and I believe a high five in for M’s mom. I thanked both for the opportunity afforded to Peyton to have them take her. We said our goodbyes, then headed to the grocery store. Peyton recounted what she’d done. They saw a hedgehog, capybarra, a LARGE rodent, a jaguar named Sophia, a large bunny, how bats catch food in a little web with their feet and eat, how skunks can do hand stands, how hedgehogs can get poop on themselves to camouflage themselves from predators, and got to feed sheep and a large cow-looking animal. They slept on the hard floor in the classroom area, and they had snacks – one chips ahoy last night, pretzels, and cocoa. This morning, they had pancakes, and she had two. She said she missed all of us, but she didn’t tell anyone. She didn’t have to potty overnight. They went to sleep around 1030 pm, and they were awoken by 7 am by Mandy, the guide. She said she really liked her name. She rode the Frog ride twice, one with the troop without an adult, and the other time, she and S went on it alone since they wanted to go again. Last night, they had pizza at PMH, and she had cheese since they didn’t have Hawaiian as she normally gets. S LOVES pineapple, too. She had milk. Dave got groceries while I took P to get an acai bowl. When we got home, she said she was tired. That earned her a trip to her room for a nap. She didn’t put up too much of a fight, though I’d wanted her to change and put her stuff away. She didn’t get that far. We woke up and went to Brandon’s scrimmage at a field nearby. I’d brought some food for her, since she skipped lunch. She threw around with Dave, and then we headed home. Both practiced piano, and Peyton was waiting for a dog-walking with Cody. Tricia let me know they were late due to F’s soccer tournament going longer due to their win. I told her Peyton had to get to bed early, so if it didn’t work out, that’s okay. Peyton was disappointed, but I read her the text, so she knew I had tried at least. They’re ready for their first full week at school!
