These out of order posts…
Peyton had her playdate on Wednesday. Just as I was about to go get Brandon at CDC, Dave called me to tell me CDC called him but no voicemail was left. I called to ask if there was a problem, knowing it was only Brandon remaining. I’d talked to the director Tuesday and we were good to go. The receptionist didn’t know me (or I her), and I was transferred via walkie talkies, and then she came back and told me “my kids” weren’t at the center. I tried to understand more, and then by that time, I was there. Ms B saw me coming, and she called for Brandon before I could explain what I’d been told. She told me they were looking for Peyton, but that Brandon was there. Phew. He didn’t know what was going on, as he was where he was supposed to be. Ms B was going to check with the staff to see why Dave was called first, and not me. We left to get Peyton. D and his 4 siblings were all at home. So, she was the 6th child there! They were all having a great time, with the younger kids playing while the older ones did homework. Brandon came inside and started playing with the oldest, who he knows from baseball. So, there was a 7th grader, 5th grader, 4th grader, 2 first graders, a four year old and a six month old. D’s mom said Peyton just loves the baby. It took us awhile to get out of the house, but we finally did. On our way home, Peyton told me D has a nickname for her – “Peyt.” Like Kate, with a P. I told her that’s her first nickname aside from ours for her “Pey-Pey” or “baby sister” which hasn’t been used in a long time. She still calls him “my buddy”. They just changed tablemates today, so she doesn’t sit next to him anymore.
This morning, the kids were not listening during breakfast. They were messing around, and I told them there would be consequences. If they wasted my time, I’d not leave home until the last minute. And I did. I left at 806, and there was a bit of traffic. There was no parking by school, so I let them out at a neighbor’s driveway, and they ran. I had to park, and then get my book before heading over to the flag salute. I was talking to another mom who was asking about P, when she turned around in her line. Her teacher walked over to me and asked if everything was okay this morning. I told her exactly what happened, and she said she came into line crying a little bit. She thought she was late, but she wasn’t. The line was just heading out. I’d told her to go to the end of the line, since she was so late. The teacher assured me no attendance had been taken. I went to say good bye to her after salute was over, and she wouldn’t look at me. She looked past me while I explained why she was late. She had one single tear roll down her cheek. She did get over it, and she gave me a head bump – not a kiss or a hug or a high five. She just leaned her head into mine. I went to go to Brandon’s room to give my book reading. It was more difficult given the fourth graders can go in depth more, and we only had 30 minutes. I left and went to work after that. At pick up time, Peyton was her usual self. The teacher said she had a great day and got over it. She was motivated to practice her piano for most of the time before we headed to go get Brandon. She’s practicing her hand and arm position while doing her scales and five-finger patterns. Brandon did his piano, too before he got to watch their week’s worth of star wars. We headed to meet May and Tracy for dinner with our families. I got stuff for each of the kids to do, while Brandon was supposed to bring his own stuff. He didn’t end up doing what he had, but he kept it together for the most part. We forgot to take a group picture, but we ended up taking this:
