While my mom, Brandon and I were waiting for Peyton and her team to finish warming up, we saw one kid come off the court in the middle of the game with his mom. He was a kinder on a coed team, and the mom was talking to him calmly about being a good teammate. He was not showing much enthusiasm and complaining on the court. She was telling him how to be a good teammate, making sure he made eye contact with her, and trying to pep him up to return to the game. As he left, I told Brandon that I didn’t do that with him. He took over the conversation and said, “Yeah, you’d tell me, ‘You’re wasting my time! I paid for this, and look! Get back out there before I give you something to cry about.” Haha…he nailed it! I gave him a bear hug, and I told him he knew me so well. I told him, “Have you ever heard Papa talk?” He said, “Yeah, it’s the same!” Passed down from generation to generation…tough love. Glad he doesn’t need those talks, as he did a great job at his game today. He even faked out some guy, falling away from the basket only to drive at the guy and score on him. He leaned in, and then got the basket and one. He missed his free throw, but he made a few baskets today.
Peyton did a great job at her game, scoring three baskets. Brandon was excited because my mom was there in addition to G and F. They all played together in the beginning and at half time. G was playing footsies with Brandon, literally. She’d kick his foot, and then he’d return the favor. This is after her mom convinced her to sit on the bench closer to him. We cheered the girls on, and both G and I were trying to capture the girls on “film”.
I was also shown a picture of the coaches taken by another parent. Same mannerisms!! Same calm way with the kids.
We had Peyton’s family birthday tonight. She enjoyed it!!
