Too Observant!

We did a massive purge in Peyton’s room this morning. She was helping me arrange some of her things. Before, we’d gotten rid of any puzzle that was under 100 pieces. Now, we were targeting 100 piece puzzles, especially those with large pieces. She’s getting more keen on putting them together, so all the easier ones in large tin containers went to be re-purposed. I also got rid of some things without her knowledge, like a clay snowman that was in 3 pieces. It was from CDC, along with a rolled out piece that had hardened, too. They were on her armoire. Tonight, as I was putting clothes away in her armoire, she was peeking at the top shelf, which she can barely see above. She asked me, “Hey, what happened to the snowman?” I stopped what I was doing, and I didn’t even turn around. “Uhm,I tossed it?” I was afraid of what was going to happen next. Seriously, scared of my 7 year old? Kinda. She was quiet, and then said, “OH, okay.” Phew, dodged a bullet. Then, she said, “And my snake?” Darn! I was caught! “Yes, that, too.” Awkward silence. I told her that they had come apart, which she had already known. I’m not sure if she’s okay with it, or if she’s plotting her revenge…only time will tell.

Basketball – today was both kids’ games. I got my schedule mixed up a bit, and while Dave and Brandon were out practicing baseball, Peyton and I were cleaning her room (see above). I told her we would walk to Brandon’s game at noon, and we heard the boys come home around 1115 am. Brandon shouted at her to get ready for her game. Uh-oh! Game?! Brandon said it was Peyton’s game first, then his. She was super excited, and she quickly changed her clothes! Nothing like the usual turtleness that is her changing her clothes. She was ready and out the door! There were only 8 of 10 girls there today, the two tallest were missing. Our top point-scorer was one of those, so we had to make do. Peyton ended up playing point guard when she was on the floor. She scored 10 points (5 baskets) and did so fairly humbly. She kept track in her head, but she didn’t celebrate as some other girls we’ve seen. She just nods to me when I give her a thumbs up and gets her game face on. She’s also practicing more of her passing skills as the coaches wanted her to spread it out more amongst her teammates. For the final basket, she was actually passing the ball around, and it was rebound after rebound, with various teammates attempting shots. But when it didn’t happen, and she got one of the rebounds, she just put it up and scored herself. Even as it was, I think the team lost, at least that’s what Brandon told me. He was doing a good job keeping score until G and her mom showed up. Then, we were all chatting about our respective winter breaks. The kids jumped up to take shots during quarter intermissions, while we moms chatted, too. One thing Dave was happy about was Peyton’s ball-handling skills. She’s able to crossover dribble, and changing hands and directions. She can bring the ball up the court, and look for open shots or pass it. It’s really fun watching her play!

We had lunch, then headed home to change gears. Peyton showered up, while Brandon changed into his clothes. They left, while Peyton and I walked, much to her dismay. We ended up chatting with a neighbor who we’d seen renting gear when we got gear. We ended up having to run part of the way to make it there on time. We were able to get there just after tip off. The team that we played was a huge team. Every kid at every position was taller than our kids. Brandon was being guarded by his former baseball teammate Brandon, so it got a bit confusing with everyone shouting Brandon when either of them had the ball. We sat next to the scorer’s table, and we got the buzzer in our ear most of the game. We headed to run errands after the game, then came home to have dinner. While Dave was cleaning up from our ski trip, he was blasting music from our garage, while I was cleaning up inside. As I was going out to recycle GS cookie boxes, I saw G and H with their mom walking the dog. She saw my boxes and asked if Peyton was still selling. I went inside to tell her, put on her vest, and had her go get her sales pitch. Brandon wanted to know what was going on, and he came down in the middle of practicing piano to see who was there. I didn’t tell him, but he was happy when he came out. We chatted with them for awhile, and Dave even finally invited them over for dinner since they’re working on their kitchen and will be out of commission until April.

And told him that he needs to call home every evening to say goodnight to him. And wants to get up at 5 am to wish him off. Seriously, kid has daddy issues! My mom will come in to help out, but she’s already confused by our complicated schedule. We’ll go day by day, and that will be how we figure it out.

Dogs – Peyton saw a picture posted on FB
