Day 4 Mommy Camp

Yesterday, we didn’t do a whole lot. We were going to have a playdate with Peyton’s friend but he ended up with a stomach ache after camp, and then a fever, so I was glad to have had it cancelled. I took the car in for a smog check, and I waited longer than I had wanted to with both kids in tow. Today, I woke up and the kids were playing quietly alone. Peyton even came in and said, “We played for like half an hour and we didn’t even fight!” I got the kids to do their work, piano, and then we went for lunch. I’d chatted with Michelle about summer pizza, so I headed to get pizza. I warned them to behave or we weren’t going to our SF outing tomorrow. They did great! Brandon read his book at the table, while Peyton and I played hangman in both Spanish and English. We split a large pizza and kale salad. It was just the right amount for us, though I think they could have eaten even more. I asked them if they wanted to save Daddy a slice, and of course, they both said no and devoured it on the spot. They were behaving so much that i took them into a store to shop! I went to shop for more work out clothes a few doors down. Brandon found a spot and plopped himself down to read some more, while I took Peyton to look for me. I have her hunt for sizes to keep her busy, while I look around. When I went to get Brandon on the way back out, I saw the security guard doing his job. On the way out, Brandon told me the security guard was chatting him up, teasing him for taking his stool. He saw he was reading an Alcatraz book and was asking him about it. At least I knew no one was going to take Brandon. We headed back home, and both kids took a “rest” for an hour. It turned into a 1.5 hour nap for Peyton at least. Brandon was awake but quiet more or less in his room. Peyton finally woke up and got ready for practice. We took her to practice, and since the kids were messing around during pitching on Tuesday, I ended up being Peyton’s catcher. Dave came in half way through. It was our last practice, and coach had brought slurpees for the team. Fortunately for the siblings, some of the girls didn’t show up. So after a few minutes once practice started, Brandon was offered one. He was super excited. He then went to read some more before helping field balls. After practice, we headed home for dinner. After dinner, Dave was showing Peyton pitching videos of Jennie Finch. Peyton pointed to the screen and said, “Yeah, she’s just like me!” Dave and I turned to each and laughed out loud, but neither of us corrected Peyton. She has shown improvement over the summer season that we’ve noticed, and another mom did comment on that today, too. Let’s hope her attitude continues to improve as well.
