Backyard Movie

After I’d gotten home from my day of travel, I took Peyton to see a movie in our girl scout leader’s backyard. We brought “healthier” snacks – two packs of blueberries and chex mix. She had already eaten dessert, so she was to have just savory snacks. I got her there a little bit late, as we were rushing to get snacks. She had a blanket, small pillow and a sweatshirt. Though it was hot that afternoon, I had her change into pants because I knew it would get cooler in the backyard. She kept asking me what movie we were going to watch. I told her I didn’t know, and her response was, “That’s okay, whatever movie it is, I’ll just watch it, even if I’ve seen it already.” Yup, that’s the spirit! There were boy scouts there, too, so Brandon could have totally come, but this is Peyton’s gig, so it was just the two of us. We had eaten dinner already, so she just hung out and played at first. No warm up needed; I was busy trying to get all our paperwork squared away for our overnight camping session later in the month. We’ll be sleeping over in the aquarium, which is really cool! She immediately found her friend that took her to the sleepover last year, and they were on the swings together, and then found the two seats in front of the movie. The other girl was fighting with her older brother in what must have looked all too familiar to Peyton. She mostly stayed out of it, but I was talking to her mom, so I didn’t see if she was implicated. Their dad took each one of them aside and talked to them separately. Luckily, he didn’t take Peyton, but he was more than capable of doing that, since he will be her middle school principal later on. Otherwise, the girls were kicked off the chairs to have a seat on the grass. Another mom put a more hearty blanket down, as the grass would later become a bit damp. Peyton put her own sweatshirt on without a reminder, as I guess it was cold enough. The host had brought out some sleeping bags to the parents who were shivering (me). There was a fire pit going with s’mores, and all the other kids were eating them. Peyton’s friend came up and asked if she could have one. I’m not sure if Peyton put her up to it or not, but I told her she could have just one when it was okay for her to go up and roast, since they were taking turns. Finally, a space opened up for the two of them, and Peyton made room for her to sit together. It was really sweet. They took it back to their area and enjoyed the nicely roasted marshmallow. When the movie was done, we packed up and got ready to go. It was after 10 pm!
Here is what I was able to capture:
