Beach day

Now that we no longer all work together, we can take time off together!

We coordinated go to the beach. There is a new bakery that I wanted to try. The kids have been sleeping in later so I didn’t want to set too early of an alarm. I set it at 730 in hopes of getting to the bakery and up to michelle by 830. Brandon got up first and then woke Peyton. She was crabby and eventually got to getting ready. I had her change into swim clothes though it was supposed to be cooler there at the beach. Brandon was too but he said he wasn’t going in. I’ve heard that before.  So we got our breakfast and then Peyton told me she didn’t go potty yet! She said she could wait to go to the Kao’s so she held it til then. They picked out Monkey bread since Marcus had had it at the last coffee shop in Davis.  I got caffeinated then headed up to meet michelle. Her kids were already on the car, but I ran up with Peyton.  I left Brandon in the car to avoid more shuffling. Marcus and Mckayla ended up getting out of their car, too, but they wanted to say hi along with Ted who came out.  We quickly got back in the cars and headed out.  We arrived without any trouble and went for a short hike. The kids were trying to get wet playing in the water, skipping rocks, and risking getting fully soaked. As we were leaving, we found a mom and her daughter with their two dogs. The kids were all excited to see dogs! Spring, the younger dog, was happy to retrieve the many balls that were thrown for her.  The kids tried to take turns but luckily there was an older dog there, too, who was available to pet. The mom was a teacher, and it was quite evident. She was very patient and entertained the many questions asked of her by the kids.  We got sidetracked on time, and soon Bonnie was calling us!  I’d turned my ringer off as I was taking sniper pictures of the kids and didn’t want them to hear the “shutter” sound.  We met them at the restaurant, and Connor was there to greet us from the window.  My kids initially said they were not hungry but they wanted clam chowder. I ordered a kid’s grilled fish and chips to split. Brandon said he was hungry at that point, and I was going to order him another plate. But I told him to eat first and if he were still hungry, I’d order for him.  Turns out that he did get full after eating what he was given.  So we headed to the beach from there.  It was a nice one with fine sand! The kids were super excited to go play! They threw out all their toys and kicked off shoes and ran to the water.  Even as we were parking, they were saying, “We’re so excited!!”  We spent several hours there just hanging out. We saw a few sea lions and even two whales which were swimming back and forth in front of us. The wildlife was super close to shore!  After the kids got too cold, Bonnie and michelle shared snacks with the kids. I hadn’t planned that far ahead thinking they’d have enough after breakfast and lunch. After dusting off some of the sand, we drove home.  They both passed out! I had them disrobe in the garage to shake more sand out. Peyton took a long time getting it out of EVERYWHERE. After they were done, they practiced the piano and soon Dave was home.  Peyton worked on a puzzle until bedtime. I told her she had to go to sleep after she finished it. She agreed so I started helping her. Brandon was tired and didn’t put up any fight. Tomorrow is their last day of summer.
