Basketball and Birthday

This morning, we had basketball pictures for both kids, just a few minutes apart. Then, Brandon had his game. It was a hard-fought game against a rather dirty team with some kids that were hacking away. Brandon started to get aggressive and took charge with the ball. He made a fade away shot that went right into the basket. But they still lost in double digits. We came home to eat and practice piano for Peyton, then she was sent to take a nap. We hung out until Peyton’s game. Since we ran a little late to the pictures and Dave had to be texted by Ryan, we showed up to the game super early. Dave had our two kids running dribbling drills outside in the hallway. Slowly other teammates showed up. This was a much-anticipated game, as the match up was against the other CC team. It was a close one, and according to one mom keeping score, it was 22 to 18 us. According to the other coach, it was tied. Peyton had been hacked a few times, and came up holding her left arm. She looked like she was going to cry, but kept it together. I was worried for piano! The parents were getting mad because the other coach was telling his players to hold up our team and playing illegal defense by holding the players’ arms. The ref wasn’t calling any fouls. We went home and quickly got the cake, then headed to the bowling alley. We were a bit early, so they weren’t even ready for us. We did get in after the league play was done. We got the kids set up, and then they started bowling. The big siblings were all on the same lane together. The other kids spread out on the two lanes, with Nina joining in on the third lane when she arrived.
Peyton introduced the friends who didn’t know each other. She was reluctant, but she did go ahead to do it. Soon, when the kids were all settled, they bowled with the bumpers up.

The kids had a great time, with a break from bowling to eat pizza and have cake. The bowling ended right at 7 pm, and Peyton passed out her goodie bags that she’d worked on. We got help from F, G, and H to take Peyton’s presents out. The bowling alley staff cleaned up the table, and we took the bowling pin that all the kids signed home. Here are the pictures from Peyton’s 8th birthday! Everyone loved the cake which we’d picked up yesterday evening from downtown SJ, amidst protesters marching the streets. It was well worth it for the oreo chocolate cake.
