Big day

7 am wake up. After Brandon had been out until 10 pm for basketball practice

8am piano practice

830 am Peyton leaves for softball practice with Dave (9-1030)Brandon and I stay home for homework and chores.

1030 am: Dave comes home without Peyton. He sent her to her game with another player. We don’t know the family well but hes getting trusting. đŸ˜³. He takes Brandon to his game.

11 am: I leave to go find Peyton. Her game is at 1145.  I see Dave and had no clue he’d be at the park, too. Maybe I worried him that she’d not be where she was supposed to be. Lucky for him she was there.

1145-130 pm: Peyton subs in for another team, the Avalanche. Three of her teammates, the best ones on the team, filled in for a new team, The Avalones (our team is the Cyclones)

Only at bat.

She was the starting short stop. One of her first plays was a grounder that bounced off the ground, and she backhanded it, set her feet and fired to first for the out. She played outfield for the next two innings and there were no balls hit to her. The final inning, she was at first. With two outs, there was a ball hit to short stop, who threw the ball just a bit short of first. Peyton stretched out and dig it out of the dirt while touching the bag with her back foot.  The opposing coach was umping the game since there were no refs. And called his own player out!  (He was so excited another the play, he had to tell Dave later in the day as he didn’t know that Dave had missed it!) those plays are hard to capture on video since I don’t have it running. But I wish I’d gotten it for Dave.

1130am Brandon’s team is at cupertino and starts to warm up for their game at 1230 pm

2 pm: Peyton and I arrive to see Brandon’s game, at the end of 5 it was 10-0. I was talking to Kenny who was at the snack shack working his shift. Peyton chugged a lukewarm gatorade and ate her leftover pizza. She wasn’t hungry as she’d already had a Popsicle after her game. Brandon pitched – walked three and then got yanked to play in the outfield. He had his chance.

230 pm: Dave took Peyton to her tryouts for summer ball while Brandon’s team was just wrapping up with the win. The other team scored one after he’d loaded the bases. We followed behind them a few minutes later.

3 pm-5 pm: Peyton tried out for 8u, competing against many of the lower division in the league. She was quiet and rather reserved since she didn’t know many. She let her play speak for itself all the girls had to play catch with the coach, field some balls at second and move to short.

Then they did pop flies (she caught two for two)

and then batted (popped up two and ripped two up the middle; the opposing coach quickly caught the line drive for the out).

They were done by 445 pm.  She and two friends were talking, and they wanted to try out for the 10u team. Dave was looking forward to being done and just watching the older kids try out. But we turned around and the kids were up to the registration table with the league president, who had coached Peyton in the game earlier. He signed them up by taking their names and birth years.

I left to go home and pick Brandon up. He had his water ready to go to volleyball. I was going to give him my phone but he was afraid of the emergency money I had.  I even gave him my password and had him practice in the car. He then said he didn’t have any other place to put it. So he declined. He found his friends that he made last week and at basketball practice Friday night. And he was okay to go except that he asked if I’d pick him up. Really? He’s worried about being abandoned?!

5pm: went back to field. Dave was helping out with the Evals. He was catching balls back from coaches.  Then, he threw pop flies to girls.  He was also pitcher for the batters but our girls from our team would have the advantage, though he pitched pretty consistently.  After Peyton batted, I quickly ran to get Brandon (630pm). We got back in time to see Peyton pitch a few. She definitely needs work on this. They didn’t do this in 8u. But she’s identified as a pitcher on that team.

Finally, at 7 pm, we finish up our sports day.

until tomorrow, where we go to Ucla-Stanford.

Fired from self-applying sunblock.
