Tourney day 1

I worked after dropping the kids off at school. Dave picked Peyton up from school first then came home just after I did.

I took her to practice piano while dave cleaned up. Here is what she played, after hearing the song at the recital last week.

Then, I sent Peyton to nap even though she said she wasn’t tired.

Here’s what I found after I woke up.

Hardly tired at all. She even went back to sleep after the alarm went off that dave had set.

We got her up and at ’em and dressed to play. We got to the field first and got everything set up.

Peyton started at first base for the first two innings.  The other team started getting hits early on, and it looked like it was going to be tough. It was 2-0 after the first half of the inning.  Our girls started with two outs with the first two girls.  Peyton was up third and took the walk.  Then, the next few batters all got on and the following batters proceeded to get 5 runs put up, which is the max early on.

The top of the second inning, it with one out, bases loaded. A girl hit the ball into the infield triangle between pitcher, second base and Peyton.  She ran in front of her teammate, yelling, “MINE!”   She made a backhand catch to make the play. Meanwhile, the runner at first had already left the bag and was trying to run back to first. Since Peyton was playing first, she looked up at the base and no one was covering (the second baseman is supposed to cover if the first baseman is fielding the ball).  So she ran back to the runner and tagged her back just before she reached the base. She was out!!  She made an unassisted double play! As she was tagging the player, she stumbled over first base and fell down because she’s Peyton after all and clumsy    She was sad to have made a small hole in her sleeve. I told her it’s better than her skin.  But she said, “but it’s a new shirt!”  At least she ended the inning!

We ended up with another 5 run inning in the bottom of the second.

Peyton was then up to pitch in the third inning. It was nice to be up 10-3, and she was able to throw some strikes.  She got two struck out and had a stand out inning!

But she’s only good for one inning. As evidence by the fourth inning where she came undone.  She walked runs in, at least 6 and allowed runs scored. It was ugly.  The coach pulled her thankfully and put her teammate in who shut it down. Peyton played first after that and one player’s grandpa said, “Just let the player hit down first base line and have Peyton take care of it.” Glad he had confidence in her there as she’d lost it on the mound.

We then dropped Brandon off to basketball clinic.  Dave stayed with him while I took Peyton to eat.  We brought food back from the restaurant and watched the rest of his practice.

We didn’t get home until after 9! And we’ll have to be up by 6 to get to the field by 7 to play by 8. Life’s rough for our little athlete.

Final score: 14-10
