First Day!

Today, both kids were up just after my alarm and ready to go. Peyton and I discussed her clothing last night so there was no issue this morning. Brandon was up and ready to go, but his school didn't start until 950 am, as it does every Wednesday.

I set off with Peyton first to take photos. We parked about a block away, and then we walked in together. I got quick pictures of her in front of both signs, and she put her stuff in line. She wasn't first, but she was okay where she was at. She saw Hope, then we walked over to her line to see GS friends. Turns out two of them had her current teacher last year. The GS mom introduced Peyton to her new teacher, and Peyton was shy as usual. I did get to introduce myself before we headed back to the "safety" of her friends. Soon, the bell rang, and the kids lined up with their respective classes. The parents followed their kids to the class, the teacher gave a little spiel, and then the parents were invited to coffee with the principal. But, I checked my phone and got texts from Brandon. "Where are you?" I told him about F's recommendations to him about PE, and he asked, "How are you talking to Faith?" "Hurry up please". "Take me" I assured him I'd be coming home, and he was still 1.5 hours from school starting. Sheesh. I got home, and he heard the car, came out with his backpack on, shoes on, and ready to go. I coaxed him back in, and let him chill out. I vacuumed to make noise, and to focus on something other than him. I think it was white noise enough for him to avoid chattering on with me. He watched the clock intently, as I told him we'd leave at 915 am on foot. He wanted to drive, but I Told him the traffic was just as bad or worse than walking. So, we headed out, and he walked quickly. We stopped by his former teammate's house, and rang the doorbell. His mom came out, and he asked her if he was home. She said he'd just left to go with the other neighbors. We continued to walk, and I was negotiating how many pictures I'd take. I showed him the two shots of Peyton's school, and he agreed to those. But as we neared school and as we were able to push the crosswalk button, we heard, "Brrrandon." It was F and G! I'd seen them earlier in the morning at Peyton's school with their mom and H. From there, I teased Brandon and asked F to "please hold his hand while he crosses the street." They all gave me a smile and I headed back the other way. I texted their mom right away and let them know I knew he was in good hands. I totally forgot to embarrass them all and get a picture with them, though I wish I had.

I went to work until it was time to pick Peyton up. She looked hot and tired, and we went around to CDC to check in per her request, and also to say bye to H. We then walked to the office to get paperwork for Brandon to volunteer at school.

We went home, changed, and walked back out to get Brandon. Five minutes to the bell, I get a text "Meet me by the tennis courts". I told him "Daddy wants a picture of you at the front of the school." He asked me, "Where is Daddy?" He didn't quite get it. He was sending random texts about our location, when Peyton finally said, "There he is!" We walked up to him so we could get that picture along with the PE shirt he needed. We had to make a few stops along the way to get change, get sized, and finally, the shirt was in hand. We set off back the same way we walked. He reluctantly told me about his day. He has a friend in each period. On our way back home, we saw the same classmate that he tried to find. We stopped to chat with his dad. The two kids aren't "friends", but they are friendly, and had been in band together. The dad was asking Brandon about the first day and chatting back and forth, when suddenly, Brandon asked, "Max, you wanna walk home tomorrow together?" Max said, "Well, I have other friends I walk home with." And his dad encouraged him, "Well , you can all walk back together!" Max shrugged, and I asked him, "Where do you meet?" He told Brandon the corner, right by the track, and then Brandon said, "Okay, see you tomorrow!" I was proud of him for taking matters into his own hands. But I Told him tomorrow, I'd be home, so I had planned to pick him up. I can track where he is and how much battery life he has remaining. He was okay with the trial run, and I told him if he couldn't find the group walking home, then he can call me, and we'd come get him. There is no piano tomorrow, so it'll work out well as we ease into our new arrangements.

Here are the pictures! In reverse order as I can never figure out how they upload.
