Saturday

Today we woke up and piano was practiced. We headed out in two separate cars to the same destination – the family giving tree warehouse.

We were tasked with sorting presents in lines based on tags that were on gifts. The kids separated and did their jobs independently while Dave went between warehouses (across the street) with a big cart. I was upset with random kids running around unsupervised not doing actual work. P and b took the job seriously and did not “shop” for toys as other kids were with toys assigned to other kids. P came up to me upset, “There are toys in the wrong lines, not in order.” I told her, “Fix them!” She didn’t realize she could! I was also annoyed that toys were placed in the wrong spots, making it twice the work. After two hours, the toys were all moved from one warehouse into the lines. From there, we started organizing each row QA’ing the rows. This was cathartic, and we each took a row. We had to re-sort a bunch of misplaced toys. At one point, p said, “Oh, my back!” I felt her pain as we were all hunched over looking at the tags, ordering them. After 30 minutes of this, we lined up a whole row in the warehouse.

Dave wanted to leave it at that since we’d felt a great sense of accomplishment in that.

Organizing each line within this long row of toys. 80,000 toys is their goal.
