Easter!

We had no plans for Easter other than Peyton’s basketball practice at 12 pm. She is on another team (NJB) and their first practice was today. Worked out because there was no softball today. Dave had to go to work, and I thought it was a joke when he told us! Peyton climbed into bed this morning while I was still waking up. She gasped and pointed to the ceiling, “Look! There’s a spider!” I quickly opened my eyes to the answer of “April fools!” Boo.

We practiced piano while Dave headed off to work. We made our shopping list and headed out. Brandon was left at home as he said he had a headache.

Peyton just finished a book entitled “Pie”. Each chapter features a real recipe for another pie. We narrowed down to try a “Buttermilk pie” which sounded like a custard pie. We had to get our ingredients and because we weren’t doing anything for Easter, we were going to try homemade dyed eggs. We were going to make three colors with natural ingredients- tumeric (yellow), beet (pink), and purple cabbage (blue/purple).

When we got home, we worked on the eggs. Dave came home as we were in the midst of mess-making. We had to interrupt dyeing to go to practice. We didn’t want to be late, and I needed gas, too. We ended up arriving twenty minutes before practice. We got to meet the dad that put the team together. He was telling us his group was mostly fourth graders who were less aggressive formerly playing with two to three aggressive girls who would only pass to themselves. Little did they know that they picked up two aggressive girls in Peyton and H. But they also picked up height. And our girls pass. When the other girls came in, we quickly saw that ours would be post players as they were the tallest on the team. The j league definitely selected out the height, as the other girls seem to be of J heritage.

Practice started promptly at noon. First they picked their jerseys. The other girls who all know each other were rifling through the numbers. We told Peyton there was a 22 and she should go get it. She ran over, swooped it off the ground and ran back over to us. She wasn’t shy about wanting it. Then she tried it on, and it was a close fit. I think she’ll sacrifice for the number. She just may not wear much underneath it.

When practice officially started, the two sisters coaching immediately had the girls running! Peyton later said she didn’t feel well the first half of practice as she was definitely pushing herself. She held her own and put forth her effort. She seemed to be having fun as if she’d missed basketball since being off just under a month.

Practice ended two hours later with another running drill. First game is already next weekend but she will be traveling for softball. If it doesn’t get rained out again, as it’s supposed to rain Thursday through Saturday! Ugh.

We made pie after we came back from practice. We shared it after dinner:

The verdict is that Brandon finished in under two minutes with a clean plate. Peyton and I enjoyed it though it was pretty lemony having both rind and the juice of a full lemon. We watched the baseball game and then it was bedtime!

H had told Peyton that the Easter bunny had dropped something off for them. She told Peyton to go find her stuff when we came home particularly looking in the kitchen. Peyton was so excited to see what the bunny had delivered. Poor girl was disappointed. I told her maybe he was playing a joke on us đŸ˜‚
