Jennifer emailed me from home saying that Jesselyn had thrown up multiple times this morning, so she had to stay home with her. Jennifer said it was going around school and that another room had it, too. I figured by 330pm, they hadn’t called me yet, so we were in the clear. I even told Debbie that so far, so good – Brandon has been relatively healthy, no major illnesses, just a few quick viral things that’s he’s gotten over pretty quickly. Debbie had even suggested I pick him up then and there just to avoid any potential problems! As I was driving to pick him up, I told my mom what happened to Jesselyn. She was worried that Brandon might get it since they played together this weekend. Nah, that was such a long time ago.
I picked him up at his usual time, with no problems reported. I even asked Koko if there were any illness reports from their classroom. Nothing. She said it hit next door and across the way. Dave was already home as I was going to a holiday gift exchange with all the girls from work (and Tony and his family). I went, had a great time, despite the rain and parking situation, and came home around 930pm. Brandon was sleeping, but Dave was coming out with a towel. Brandon had just thrown up – it’s happened before, chuking – puking after choking. He ate too much, starting coughing, then choking and then puke comes out. Maybe this was the same thing, but this time, he wasn’t eating. He was sleeping. And it kept coming. We changed towels, solid undigested food was coming out. After a few heaves, he had most of the food out. Then came the worst part, the bile-like stuff that’s yellow and sticky, when all the food is gone. Reminded me when I had morning sickness. He did that every 15 minutes or so, after each bout, he would let out a sickly cry, like a moaning almost. He was fine in between rounds, but then it would happen again and he’d be upset again. After a few rounds, we called the advice nurse, who recommended a few teaspoons of water at least 15 minutes after his last bout. Problem was that the next bout would hit by then. The nurse said he just needs to get everything out of his system. But he’s such a trooper, in between bouts, he’d still manage a smile, or ask for Mickey, and then he farted and then let out a little chuckle because I said it was stinky. It was the most heart-wrenching when he’d want me to hold him, then he’d look at me with these big, sick, wet puppy dog eyes; his eyes were so sad; I could tell just by looking at him that he had no idea what was going on, but just wanted it to stop. He was so tired – it’s past his bedtime, he’s sick, but his body kept heaving. It’s 11pm now, it’s been 1.5 hours. Poor thing just wants to go to sleep. We’ve gone through 5-6 large towels. It doesn’t really work to hold him over the sink because it puts pressure on his tummy. Just yesterday I was telling him not to spit because it’s rude. Now, I have to tell him to spit it out, so he doesn’t swallow what he’s spit up. I even called Bonnie to tell her that we wouldn’t be going to the company party at Lawrence’s (not many people were going anyways). I was planning to go by myself, but not with Brandon in this condition. Hopefully the worst is over, and he can just sleep it off. That usually works for me. Man, Deb, I should have listened or else I didn’t knock on wood enough!

Just thinking about it now, I wonder if it was the frozen milk that made him sick. He had some of it that was defrosted at school (overnight in the fridge), and also some this morning at home that was thawed out from last night. Man, I hope not; breast milk is supposed to make him stronger, not sick.
