Yesterday was Brandon’s official last game. It turns out that they are having a make up game in the middle of the week, but that wasn’t known until after yesterday’s game. Everyone had gotten a team ball already except Brandon. Coach was aware as he asked all the parents to be sure. Brandon started off the inning playing first base. One of the Red Sox hit the ball towards first, and Brandon ran to get it, and quickly tagged first (with some coaching). He seemed a bit like he didn’t know what was going on, but at least he listened to what he was being told. Peyton was eating all her snacks that I’d brought for her – cold veggies, cheese stick, and an apple. She also had her kindergarten book, which she did after she ate her snacks. She did a good job of staying in her seat for this game. Brandon listened at bat, and after missing about 6 balls and having coach say “Next one is on the tee”, he smacked it. Another at bat, Coach egged him on and said, “Hit it like Ning and Jonathan,” who both had solid hits right before him. That was enough for Brandon, who hit the first pitch, out to the short stop! The team was excited about the pizza party after, but it didn’t stop them from going to the snack shack. Each kid got 2 tickets, but Brandon shared his with his sister. Both kids chose nachos. I helped Peyton eat hers, so she didn’t eat so many chips. We headed over to the pizza place, and our pre-ordered pizza was awaiting us. Brandon sat with the team, and gobbled down his pizza. We even went to the other room and left him there! The kids were getting drinks, and Dave told me to help him while he got Peyton situated. As I went over to him, another mom was asking Brandon if he wanted a soda. He looked at her in horror, and shook his head, asking for water. He didn’t even know I was standing there, but did see me when he turned around. I gave him a thumbs up, and I saw why he knew the right answer – there was a tray of cupcakes on the table. I was even planning on giving him watered down juice before I saw that he himself declined a drink. Later, as the cupcakes were being passed around, he took one. There were extra, and the mom asked if anyone wanted a second. Brandon put his hand in the air, then I shook my head. He put his hand down, and gave me a scowl. I think he probably would have cried if not for the whole team there. I need to read more here and here. Michelle sent it to me about raising healthier eaters. In any case, he tried. So, we left the party to come back and take a nap. 3 out of 4 of us slept (Dave doesn’t usually take naps). We then headed out to do some errands, and then went to eat by our old condo. The Korean place that served kimchi pizza turned into a Mediterranean place. Brandon checked it out and after seeing the extra space in the back for parties suggested that this was a nice place for his birthday. This kid loves food. He was also checking out the floor since it was perfect for Beyblading. Always thinking. We came home, and the kids were sent to bed. I took off to go out with Michelle, Kathy and Bonnie. Kathy and Bonnie were already there, and Michelle let us know she was on the way. We had a nice meat and cheese plate, along with crostini and some dips. Later, we shared two desserts (hazelnut with bacon!) and a lava cake. Both were yummy! We all headed home after closing down the restaurant, and I returned to a sleeping family! The kids gave us a break this morning and didn’t come in until 715am!
We headed to our city’s Art and Wine festival today. We didn’t get anything (except Dave’s beer) but enjoyed the stroll up and down the aisles. We made it home for lunch, and now a nap again! Love the weekend!
