Catching Up!

This morning, Dave went out for a bike ride while I had the kids. We lounged around while he was gone, then ate breakfast. He returned sooner than I thought he would, and just in time to eat breakfast with us. After he showered up, we got ready to go up to play with Matteo and Roy. We were the first to arrive, followed by two other families close behind us. The final family arrived after another 30 minutes or so. 5 families, 10 kids, youngest – 1.5 years (Roy) to oldest – 2 eight year olds. The amazing thing was that all the kids played well together, and ours didn’t know the other kids besides Matteo and Roy. And even then, we don’t get to see them that often. Matteo and Roy were very generous with their toys. Brandon loved Matteo’s legos and the two of them sat nicely for a long time at the table putting them together. Peyton was the one we had to watch as she was roaming around from toy to toy and needed us to supervise her in play. For a little while, she was entertained by the movie on TV, but even that didn’t last long. What did captivate all the kids was LUNCH! The kids all did a great job! Here is a picture we attempted to capture, but there were kids in flux, so we didn’t get them all. One didn’t eat with the other kids, and Roy was in a high chair.

We had arrived by 1115 am or so, and by 2pm, Peyton was done. She was whiny, easily upset, and starting not to share. Alyssa and Alaina had already gone home for a nap, so we were the next to leave. We said our thank you and goodbyes and went back to my parents’ house. They were out doing errands, so we made ourselves at home. Dave took Brandon to the bike shop, while I told Peyton to take a nap. She asked, “You mean go to Brother’s room?” She was excited to get to sleep on the bed instead of the floor like she usually gets. She did go with me, so I played games while she sang, then suddenly, she was quiet and stopped moving. It only took a few minutes. My parents came home shortly after that, so I went upstairs to check in with them so they knew we were there, though our shoes were upstairs. Within another 10 minutes, Brandon and Dave returned. We caught up for awhile, showed my mom some videos we’d taken of the kids (mostly Peyton). We left by 6pm so we could get home and get the kids ready for school tomorrow. Thankfully Carolyn packed some chicken for us, which we happily ate for dinner with some sweet potatoes. The kids shared a peach after, then both were sent up for bath and bed. Tomorrow marks my return to work. I’ll have to get through the week, then it’s the holiday! Yay!
