Tonight was Back To School Night. It’s our second already! For the second time in a row, my dad came down to help out. It’s been exactly a year since my dad’s watched the kids solo. He got here around 530pm, while we were feeding the kids dinner. He was headed to a dinner with a client after us, so he didn’t eat anything. We left by 6pm, and got to school to find parking. We went to class, and were instructed to sign in, and sit in our child’s desk. The desks were tiny, but I managed. Dave sat to the side. It was different than how he drew it, but he did sit next to Bit and on the end of the row. He had a welcome card for us with his picture. There were a lot of writing samples throughout the classroom, but since she was starting right on time, we didn’t look at them right away. She had us write a letter to our student, then reviewed all of the information for the year (it’s A LOT!). I guess they are starting off slowly, then will pick up the pace with graded quizzes and leveled math and language arts. He has a lot cut out for him. After, we were left for a few minutes to roam around the classroom and look at the writings. There was one picture Brandon had written about responsibility, and how he was trying to stay on purple. He’d drawn the color chart, and colored in ONE purple square for his card. Another he talked about his favorite community helper, the police officer. He said he liked them because they helped catch speeders and helped people follow the laws. Here’s the picture of himself:

I LOVE the last sentence 🙂

I also rummaged through his desk. Dave thought it was snooping, but I found two library books – one about bugs, and one about vehicles or something like that. He loves him some non-fiction! I waited for my turn to introduce myself to the teacher. We’ve communicated online and waved hello at pick up, but I just wanted to thank her for filling out our survey earlier this week. She was very encouraging and again confirmed he was doing well so far. She discovered this week that he likes to help out. This has always been the case, since he was in Jungle room and even at FA when he helped Miss Maria and used to help out as a toddler with towels and laundry. She said he finishes his work early, and then looks forward to helping her out. I told her we try to keep him busy at home, too, since idle hands are not good for him. She was very enthusiastic and has instilled a good work ethic in him already! I shared with her his “HAVE TO” attitude and thanked her again before leaving the class to relieve my dad. He left right away as soon as we got home. He told us the kids didn’t really listen, as they were outside. We’d already given them baths! Brandon told him that he was allowed outside. They didn’t even have SHOES on! Oh well, it was only an hour that we were gone. They were then whisked upstairs to get ready for bed. Brandon had reading to do.
