Field Trip

Today was a water field trip for Peyton.  Whenever there is a water field trip in preschool, I feel compelled to attend.  I’ve been on non-water field trips and seen parents misbehaving, and I can’t imagine not being at one in person with water around.  I wasn’t let down, and I’m still not wrong!  It must just be this group of parents, as I didn’t see things this bad with Brandon’s group of parents.  But, we’re in water, people!  I know there are lifeguards, but you’re really going to rely on a couple of teenagers to watch nearly 50 kids in the water!  Talking on the phones and to each other are not helping the teachers or the kids.  In general, there is just a lack of common sense in some of the parents.  While we were shopping for two-pieces to make going potty easier, other kids had full on one-pieces, socks and shoes and underwear on.  And when we are set to feed the kids, and the kids have already been patient and waiting for 30 minutes, the parents are content to sit there and watch the teachers struggle to pass out napkins, drinks and pizza.  I took a bag of cups given to us by the facility, and shoved a stack into this lady’s hand and asked/told her to help distribute them as she was just standing around.  Another mom asked me for water as I was pouring lemonade for some kids (I’d already found the water for Peyton), and I told her there were two sinks, and she should go and get some water for the kids.  I think she was expecting me to serve her, with the blank look that she gave me.  One of Peyton’s mom had a girl in her group (R) whose mom came to the site to pick her up.  The mom gave her the third degree when the chaperone told her that she’d lent her own daughter’s cover-up to R because she didn’t have a shirt on.  She was upset that the shirt was worn in the pool, and that the kids would be cold.  O’s mom, a teacher, was completely blown away, but did calm down when she chalked it up to “cultural differences.”  That mom was happy to have her daughter be topless.  I’d already told O’s mom that the reason I try to attend the field trips Patricia didn’t utter a word and ordered canada cialis from a toy online. How does smoking influence cialis canadian erection quality? This is the information revolution where all new information becomes old with the click of the keyboard. is because I don’t trust other parents.  So, I try to go to the big ones that are in water or out in the public, like the zoo trip or the mall, where they can just wander off.  She now realizes it was a good decision for her to attend this field trip, as she was dreading being in a bathing suit. We were two of only three parents (of about 12 total) who went into the water to supervise the kids.  The teachers helped watch the perimeter, and the icing on the cake was when one dad yelled out to me to watch his kid who was choking on water as he was horseplaying with some other kids.  He was actually closer to the child than I was, and I had two other kids (not my own) who were hanging off of me.  I’m not sure what he wanted me to do, as the kid wasn’t submerged, and had probably been splashing around.  We managed to keep our kids awake on the bus ride back, though Peyton was slumping over against me.  I just tickled her a bit, then she stayed awake.  Surprisingly, she stayed awake while we went to get Brandon from afterschool. He wasn’t happy to see us because they were having an event that he wanted to stay for.  He eventually agreed to come home, and then I let him play while I got Peyton bathed, and then showered myself.  Peyton fought her nap, telling me, “I’m not tired though!” then falling asleep no less than 5 minutes after saying that.  It was pretty late, at 230 pm.  It was then Brandon’s time for some math, then I told him he could play more while I slept, too.  Peyton was still asleep when I woke up around 445 pm.  Brandon then read to me, and Dave walked in right at 5pm.  He was surprised to see Peyton out cold.  I told him that since he was home, he could wake her up.  She was still groggy, but awake.  Dave said when he first woke her up, she asked, “But where’s Mommy?”  Still Momma’s girl.  We headed out for Greek food, and the kids are down a bit later than usual (815 pm), but hopefully won’t have problems falling asleep.

I have NO pictures of the field trip, as I was taking my chaperoning seriously 😉
