Bike Day

Today was Bike Day for Peyton’s class. I lugged the bike and her gear to school, then at the end of the day, when I went to get her, she wasn’t riding! The rest of the class was out there, but she was just standing around. I asked what happened, and she looked up sadly and said, “I didn’t have a helmet!” UGH! Dave put the bike (Brandon’s old one) in the car, and I had the pads already there, but somehow the helmet didn’t make it. I didn’t notice when I put her stuff out this morning either, not that I would have gone home to get it. Ms Elena told me that Peyton was all excited to tell her that she had Brandon’s bike! Poor thing. Feeling badly, I promised her we’d go pick Brandon up, since Dave had texted me late in the afternoon that he wasn’t available, and we’d go to the school to ride. She was fine with that. We got Brandon, and I loaded up the car with the bikes. Normally, I would have walked to the park, but I didn’t want to manage two kids walking the two bikes. Brandon knows on the street, he is to walk the bike, and told Peyton, “Because you may fall off the curb and go into the street.” So both bikes went in, 2 helmets, and their pads. I figured it was better to drive also, in case there was an emergency. There’s no telling what can happen with these two on bikes. We got to the school, and I had both kids sit on the curb. Peyton was only in a t-shirt, and I asked her to put her long-sleeve on. Safed Musli: It offers effective treatment lethargy as buy viagra tabs http://foea.org/?product=7897 well as weak nerves. Brandon took over, and he showed her the bruise he got on his arm yesterday when he fell. He said, “Put your shirt on, or you may get one of these! Do you want one of these? No, put your shirt on.” She then asked me for her shirt. Meanwhile, she did not question him when HE was without a long-sleeve, as I’d not brought him one. Also, it seems one of his elbow pads was missing (Dave later reported it was in his car). So, I put the one elbow pad on the arm that was bruised up yesterday, to protect that one, and if he did fall on the other side, he’d have a matching set. His bony arm doesn’t even fit properly in them to begin with, which is why it slipped off yesterday when he fell off his scooter. So after they were all bundled up, we headed out. Both kids had a hard time getting started. Brandon has not been on a bike in awhile, so he had some figuring out to do. He eventually got it, and got the hang of it again. He was off in one direction, while Peyton got started on another.  Getting started.

Then they took off in separate directions, which in a way is good, so they didn’t crash into each other, but I had a hard time watching them both at the same time.  I had to stand in the middle so I could see both.  This is what I saw; Peyton: And Brandon: .  Once I was sure Brandon was steadier, I started running laps with Peyton.  She would fall on occasion, but she’d get right back up.  After one of the first falls that Peyton had that Brandon witnessed, Brandon wanted to make sure she was okay.  He helped her up, picked up the bike, and then made sure she could get started again.  I just let him deal with it, to let him be a good big brother.  Brandon’s falls would be harder, but fortunately, he never did.  Here are some of their action shots.  I had to jump out of the way as Peyton came by, since I didn’t trust her: and then I trusted Brandon to dodge me when I got this: .  They rode around for an hour!  Peyton was getting much better, and I still think we should remove the training wheels and just have her go for it.  The bike she’s on is a bit tall for her, so she’d probably do better on her white bike without the training wheels.  Brandon started to follow Peyton, who got scared, and then crashed into the grass.  When he went away, he later came back to tell me a dog was chasing him!  He’d even ask me, “Is the dog chasing me? I don’t want to look back and crash.”  Right around 630 pm, after we’d been there for an hour, it started to get more crowded with two more kids on bikes.  And there were a few more dogs running around, so I called it quits.  They came peaceably, and we stripped on the curb, in reverse order.  I got everything loaded back in the car, and we headed home.  I thought Dave would be back by then, and sure enough, he pulled in right as we were getting out.  Perfect timing!  I didn’t have to unload the car 🙂  The kids went upstairs one at a time to take their baths before dinner.  We had dinner, and shared the lunch I’d brought home from work.  There were beef skewers, and Dave put a slab of meat on Brandon’s plate.  He asked what it was and when he found out it was beef, he declined it!  He said, “It’s red meat!”  So Peyton ended up eating it, though she wasn’t initially offered any, since she was still working on the other food in front of her.  Brandon chose to have more chicken instead.  They were in bed by 8pm, later than normal, but hopefully tired out enough.  I had my pedometer on, and by the end of our trip, I’d put in 7000+  steps for the day.  I’ll log a few more getting things together for our outing tomorrow.  We’re not able to bring food in, so we’ll “HAVE” to eat pizza tomorrow with the class.  I think I saw a smile on Brandon’s face 😉
