Mid-Sprint

Today, both kids watched TV most of the morning; they fed themselves again, as they did yesterday, and I got up around 830 am to do some supervision in the kitchen. They had a late breakfast, and they were just wrapping up when I came down. This time, they didn’t get into the muffins Julie gave us so I was even happier. I put Peyton down for a nap around 11 am, since I’d wanted to be out the door by 1245 pm. The plan worked until I was foolish enough to check on her. She was sound asleep, but I think when I creaked the door behind me, she got up. Drats! I went upstairs again to find her playing in her room, with only 15 minutes of naptime, at best. I told her to return to bed, while I fixed Brandon an early lunch. The Fall Festival at work was from 1-4pm, and instead of lunch, they were having “light bites”. I didn’t want to feed them that for lunch, so I had Brandon eat a usual lunch. He can always eat more, but I wanted to have him with a good base, since he was going to baseball after that. I gave up on Peyton after Brandon was done with lunch. She wasn’t as hungry, but she managed to eat what I gave her. I was gathering all of Brandon’s baseball gear, double checking what Dave had packed before he left. Of course, he was missing stuff – sunglasses (later Dave informed me they were in his car) as well as cleats (again, in Dave’s car). So, Brandon had his Giants orange glasses and regular shoes as we left. This put me behind schedule. We got to the festival right at 1pm and parked in one of the last spots in the closest parking lot. We checked in, then headed straight for flu shots. No sense in prolonging the agony (mine) of hearing whining kids. Luckily, they had FluMist available, so while I got shot, the kids sniffed and snorted. We quickly left that area to return to the tents. It was SO hot today compared to yesterday. I think it’s the 3rd festival in a row, and each weekend they’ve had it, it’s been toasty. We briefly saw the Chang’s at the flu area, then the Cheng’s back at the front registration area. Brandon, Peyton and I went through the booths for the free goodies (grocery bags were my target). Brandon had his eye on a magnifying lens so we waited a good 15-20 minutes in line. Neither kid complained! Later, Brandon said he just wanted to sit. I told him he could sit while we were in line, and he was okay with that. We found the ice pops, and they were almost all gone! That helped them walk around without complaint 🙂 We walked around to the food area, and picked up our corn, beets, and pretzel. The kids weren’t hungry anymore, so I gathered it for later. The last stop we made was for the taco truck area. They had about 5-6 trucks from which to chose, but we were rather late in the game. I took them to go potty right at 3pm, then we whisked off to baseball practice. She did a great job keeping up with us, and when she did lag behind, she was able to find her way to us. I didn’t lose anyone, and everyone got what they needed. We got to baseball practice just as Coach Tom did. I had a glove to warm Brandon up, but since other kids were there, I wasn’t needed. I instead warmed Peyton up, for next year. She practiced catching, and at one point, she caught 7 in a row. And she was keeping a final tally of 12 catches. She was so proud and said, “I can’t wait to tell Daddy!” She lasted the entire game, just eating her snack from the festival (they got to make homemade trail mix and put it in a baggie), and then she worked on her workbooks. Brandon got to play in the outfield, at 3rd base, and finally at first. He made an out on his own, but stopping the hit and running to first for the out. It was a great play! He even wore his mouth piece today as requested. After the game, we all headed out, then suddenly, he told me he forgot his water bottle. Ugh, so I drove back there so he could get it. It’s the one he uses daily in his lunch, so I didn’t want to just let it go. Luckily, we weren’t that far away, but it was still a pain to turn around. Before we’d left, I’d already put out the next two changes of clothes for school. The kids finished up their tacos, and both were in bed, lights out, by 7pm. I was rushing around trying to get that deadline, and I’d just made it. Peyton’s clock said 7:02, but I think hers is fast. I told them both I was showering, and not to bother me. When I got out, Peyton was already asleep, and Brandon was zoning out. I went in to tell him Daddy would be home soon, as he looked sad. He slowly sunk into bed, and it’s been 30 minutes without sound. I’m preparing lunches for tomorrow, and then Ms Tarez will come take over for me while I go to a meeting. It’s a sprint, as I’ve felt like I haven’t stopped moving! I didn’t even finish dinner, as I stopped mid-way to do the dishes as they were done with them, then whisked them upstairs for baths.
745 pm: Dave calls while I’m cleaning up some more. Brandon’s just turned the bathroom light on. Dave wanted to say goodnight to the kids, but he’s about 30 minutes too late for one. I went upstairs, and found Brandon on the toilet (TMI, I know). He was crying! I asked him why, and he said, “I miss Daddy.” He’s SUCH a Daddy’s boy! Throughout the day, if I got mad at him, he’d say, “I wish Daddy were here! He’s so much nicer than you. (I don’t think that’s true! I think Dave yells MORE!)” Then, Peyton said, “No, he isn’t! Daddy’s meaner.” Haha, we still each are someone’s favorite. Brandon wished Daddy a good night, and then he’s off to bed. He should be exhausted, as he didn’t sleep at all, and was running around today. I need my decompression time to start all over again! Especially as we have our training meeting tomorrow night, and I have to rush around and get dinner read for them before it starts.

Oh, and my arm (the right one) is sore from the flu shot.  🙁  As if I needed any more to deal with…
