Too Observant!

We did a massive purge in Peyton’s room this morning. She was helping me arrange some of her things. Before, we’d gotten rid of any puzzle that was under 100 pieces. Now, we were targeting 100 piece puzzles, especially those with large pieces. She’s getting more keen on putting them together, so all the easier ones in large tin containers went to be re-purposed. I also got rid of some things without her knowledge, like a clay snowman that was in 3 pieces. It was from CDC, along with a rolled out piece that had hardened, too. They were on her armoire. Tonight, as I was putting clothes away in her armoire, she was peeking at the top shelf, which she can barely see above. She asked me, “Hey, what happened to the snowman?” I stopped what I was doing, and I didn’t even turn around. “Uhm,I tossed it?” I was afraid of what was going to happen next. Seriously, scared of my 7 year old? Kinda. She was quiet, and then said, “OH, okay.” Phew, dodged a bullet. Then, she said, “And my snake?” Darn! I was caught! “Yes, that, too.” Awkward silence. I told her that they had come apart, which she had already known. I’m not sure if she’s okay with it, or if she’s plotting her revenge…only time will tell.

Basketball – today was both kids’ games. I got my schedule mixed up a bit, and while Dave and Brandon were out practicing baseball, Peyton and I were cleaning her room (see above). I told her we would walk to Brandon’s game at noon, and we heard the boys come home around 1115 am. Brandon shouted at her to get ready for her game. Uh-oh! Game?! Brandon said it was Peyton’s game first, then his. She was super excited, and she quickly changed her clothes! Nothing like the usual turtleness that is her changing her clothes. She was ready and out the door! There were only 8 of 10 girls there today, the two tallest were missing. Our top point-scorer was one of those, so we had to make do. Peyton ended up playing point guard when she was on the floor. She scored 10 points (5 baskets) and did so fairly humbly. She kept track in her head, but she didn’t celebrate as some other girls we’ve seen. She just nods to me when I give her a thumbs up and gets her game face on. She’s also practicing more of her passing skills as the coaches wanted her to spread it out more amongst her teammates. For the final basket, she was actually passing the ball around, and it was rebound after rebound, with various teammates attempting shots. But when it didn’t happen, and she got one of the rebounds, she just put it up and scored herself. Even as it was, I think the team lost, at least that’s what Brandon told me. He was doing a good job keeping score until G and her mom showed up. Then, we were all chatting about our respective winter breaks. The kids jumped up to take shots during quarter intermissions, while we moms chatted, too. One thing Dave was happy about was Peyton’s ball-handling skills. She’s able to crossover dribble, and changing hands and directions. She can bring the ball up the court, and look for open shots or pass it. It’s really fun watching her play!

We had lunch, then headed home to change gears. Peyton showered up, while Brandon changed into his clothes. They left, while Peyton and I walked, much to her dismay. We ended up chatting with a neighbor who we’d seen renting gear when we got gear. We ended up having to run part of the way to make it there on time. We were able to get there just after tip off. The team that we played was a huge team. Every kid at every position was taller than our kids. Brandon was being guarded by his former baseball teammate Brandon, so it got a bit confusing with everyone shouting Brandon when either of them had the ball. We sat next to the scorer’s table, and we got the buzzer in our ear most of the game. We headed to run errands after the game, then came home to have dinner. While Dave was cleaning up from our ski trip, he was blasting music from our garage, while I was cleaning up inside. As I was going out to recycle GS cookie boxes, I saw G and H with their mom walking the dog. She saw my boxes and asked if Peyton was still selling. I went inside to tell her, put on her vest, and had her go get her sales pitch. Brandon wanted to know what was going on, and he came down in the middle of practicing piano to see who was there. I didn’t tell him, but he was happy when he came out. We chatted with them for awhile, and Dave even finally invited them over for dinner since they’re working on their kitchen and will be out of commission until April.

And told him that he needs to call home every evening to say goodnight to him. And wants to get up at 5 am to wish him off. Seriously, kid has daddy issues! My mom will come in to help out, but she’s already confused by our complicated schedule. We’ll go day by day, and that will be how we figure it out.

Dogs – Peyton saw a picture posted on FB

Snowy days

Yesterday was a piece of cake.  We went to a closer report, parked and realized there weren’t many people around. There was a group lesson to start at 1030 but there was nobody signed up. Instead of paying $90 for a one hour private lesson that I was considering for Peyton, she got a 2 instructor ratio for just her for a mere $35! Given it was just her, they were cutting it from a 1.5 hour lesson to an hour. Fine by me. I wasn’t sure she could hang any longer than that, so I was fine with it.  I headed to the lodge to watch her as it was actively snowing. Brandon and Dave set off to the other lift. Both lifts were facing the lodge so I set up my stuff there.  The downfall of a small resort is that there are fewer options in a storm.  Or so we thought (more on that later).  I went to get her after an hour, and the instructor was giving me a summary about her hour.  He said she was a great listener and was getting comfortable with her turns. She also knows how to bail in an emergency.  He was reassuring that she knew how to stop. Something she didn’t do so well last year. I thanked him for the run down. Peyton told me she lost her other instructor before the last run was done. I’d already seen him go back to the lodge before the last lift was taken. Peyton had so much fun out there but because I wasn’t dressed for skiing, I had to stall to wait for Dave.  There were only double lifts meaning that someone had to go alone. Alex, the instructor, warned me she wasn’t quite ready to go alone.  I fed her some lunch though she just wanted to get back out there. In her words: “I want to go back out there IMMEDIATELY!”   Even as Dave and Brandon came back in to eat, she was buckling up and getting her helmet back on. She was serious!  It turned out Dave was going to go back out with both of them while I was going to check on the other lessons for the day. The 1230 pm lessons were full so I was going to return before the 2 pm lesson to check. As I did that, I heard someone call my name. K linh was there with her family. Apollo was in a semi private lesson with his cousins.  I chatted with K and hung out with Keira before having Dave call it quits. His knee was hurting him and both kids were a bit wet from the snow/rain.  We said goodbye and headed back to my mom’s. We showered up and had a nice taco night in.  We headed to bed early as we were going to have a long day today.

After almost 10 hours of sleep, we woke up to head out for a longer ski resort. The weather had turned a bit, and after a harrowing two hour drive in the snow (lucky for our snow tires and 4WD), we arrived to find out the lifts were closed for avalanches.  There were large “booms” from the blasts that were being set.  The lifts weren’t supposed to open until 130 or so.  We caffeinated and waited to see what we’d do. We redeemed our online tickets and went for an early lunch.  We hung out inside for a good hour plus, and then later heard it was that long to get a table anywhere. Peyton was excited to see the Olympic Rings. I reminded her this was her second resort visiting an Olympic site. She remembered Vancouver was her first.   We decided to ask the ticket booth if our tickets could be refunded.  We didn’t get a refund but a credit for the online store ticketing center. Not bad. We’ll use it eventually. The kids were pumped up to go again so we headed back down the mountain. The snow had subsided and the ground cover melting. The drive down wasn’t as bad.  We stopped at another smaller resort and the parking attendant didn’t recommend staying. He said “I wouldn’t do it” but there were plenty of cars parked.  We decided to go check it out. There were more lifts in operation and this place had night skiing so would stay open later. Not that we would last until 9, but we got the half day pass.  We had about 20 minutes to kill before our time was up. We took an easy ride down first, then we took her to a chair that said “no easy way down”, with an anti-green circle sign.  Here’s goes nothing! It was a longer lift that took us higher up in the mountain. Wind was blowing ice crystals against our cheeks. It felt like little pin pricks but the kids didn’t mind. The chair swayed in the wind, but I tried not to think bad thoughts. She took her time but did a great job getting down the hill.  No falls!! From either of us.  Can’t say the same for the boys on their boards.  On our next lift up, she told me, “I feel so proud of myself, I’m turning and stopping and not falling!”   Eventually, the powder got the best of her as she got stuck in it and both skis popped off. She said, “Well I went a long time without falling.”  She knew exactly how to fix her skis to get them back on. I just made sure she didn’t slide down the hill after putting one on at a time. That was the only fall she had on several runs we took. At one point, I had to use the restroom, so Dave took them on his own with instructions to meet him at the top.  I took the lift up alone after I was done. As I did, I saw them heading down through the terrain park!! I watched them come down and up to a steep jump. Fortunately, she wasn’t going at a fast enough speed and didn’t make it up the jump.  She slumped backwards and then figured out how to navigate around the jump.  Brandon followed, too.  Dave hadn’t intended her to go that route, but she jumped ahead of him while he was strapping in.  I did meet them down at the bottom after that.  Sheesh! Good thing we were going mostly on the same lift as my credit card and ID had fallen out of my pocket. My cash was still there but the lift operator motioned to me to return my stuff!! He noticed it was me I guess he saw that I’d dropped it. Because everyone looks the same in helmets out there! Later Peyton complained about her feet hurting. I told her we can stop when they hurt too much. She was good for another few runs before telling me “this is it.” She told me, “The best run is the first one, and the last one is the worst. The ones in the middle are good.”  I told her we’d have a great last run.  We did the long one for our final. It was now super windy at the top. We did one last run and called it a day. We got about 2.5 hours but it was action-packed. The drive home was not nearly as bad.  The kids were up the whole time unlike earlier in the day when they took an early nap. My mom was waiting to go out to dinner after we’d showered up.  We went to a Thai place whose owner was excited to talk to Dave about craft beers. Dave was happy to oblige. Bedtime happened quickly after dinner as we knew the kids were exhausted. Dave turned in quickly after them. Here are our pictures!

Super Weekend

Yesterday, Dave took Brandon out for baseball practice, while I had Peyton practicing piano and hanging out. We walked to practice toward the end so we could deliver cookies to a teammate’s parents. Brandon had a little extra batting practice in, then we were packing up to head home. In the meantime, a friend of Brandon’s and his dad came back to ask if Brandon was free for a play date. We had no plans, so we said sure, only Brandon was in baseball clothes, so we needed to go home and change. We did that, and then we dropped Brandon off before heading back to the field to get some practice for Peyton in. From there, we headed to lunch with our girl. She had fun, but she was fading. We came home, picked Brandon up, and chatted for awhile with the parents. The kids were running wild in the street, literally, but luckily, they were safe. Peyton took care of the tiny dog that they were dog-sitting. It wasn’t a runner, so we didn’t have to worry about it getting away. Peyton carried her everywhere in the front yard. When we came home, it was Brandon’s turn to practice. We’d given the choice to Peyton about napping first or going to sleep early. She delayed sleep, so after we ate dinner at home, she was in bed by 715 pm. Brandon stayed up a little longer waiting for a baking pot pie to share with us.

Today, the kids slept in a little bit. We didn’t do much, but Dave went on a coffee run with Brandon. Piano-practice was done first thing with Peyton, then switched when Brandon got back. The kids practiced a bit more baseball, before I took Peyton to sell cookies at the local grocery store. We hung out there for a couple of hours before Dave and Brandon came to get us (we’d walked) to take us out to Valentine’s dinner.

Puzzles

Peyton got a box of puzzles for her birthday, ranging from 100 to 300 pieces.
She had been able to put together two 100-piece puzzles alone, but she was taking her time with the 300 piece puzzle and asked for help.
We ended up completing it, and as I was helping her put it away, this was our convo:

I was having a hard time remembering if my aunt had paid for her cookies. Our village

Peyton has been going to rehearsal for the walk a thon kick off assembly. There is a small skit and dance that the kids have been learning the past week.  Last night, I went to a training meeting at night, and a mom told me she was impressed with Peyton and her interest in performing. She thought she’d be rather reserved, but she is out there doing her robot dance! I thanked her for keeping me updated since i can’t make the practices. She mentioned that there was a small gap between dismissal and rehearsal in the multi for Tuesday.  I was going to have the kids go to CDC first then I was trying to figure out how to get them checked out for rehearsal. The mom told me a bunch of moms would be out there rehearsing outside while waiting for the multi to open. She told me it was okay to send the kids straight there.  I texted Dave right away since I’d not be seeing them again. I’d told them the wrong info as i left for the meeting.

Today, both kids were going to go   I stayed later at work trying to send an email for school.  I’d clocked out but was sending something out and lost track of time.  Suddenly I got a text asking if I was picking Peyton up or if she was going to CDC.  Brandon was going to band, so I didn’t have to worry about him. I texted her back and asked her to send Peyton to CDC. Kamagra in various types:- This generic form of viagra ordering is the best way to tackle male sexual problem. As we waited for Brandon to finish up, we read in the car.  Peyton told me that she’d told the mom that I was going to pick her up from practice. But then she listened to her after she told her that I’d texted her. Good thing.  I can’t wait to see the video and skit on Friday!! Brandon had a small part today since it’s his only chance to be in it. Like a cameo appearance.  Now the kids are telling me that mom and family is going to Colorado next year. What?!?  So sad.
