PDX

We left early on Saturday morning, getting up at 4 am to catch our flight. Peyton woke up as I was getting ready, coming in to potty as she often does. She got one more hug in before we left. She went back to her bed after that, and later I found out she woke up at “7:28”. She is very precise with her times. She woke up at “7:14” the next morning. We made it to PDX without any problem. We got our tickets for public transpo and headed to drop off our bags before exploring the city. Our room was not yet ready, so we dropped and went. We took an umbrella just in case, then headed out. We walked just about everywhere in between public transportation stops. We even got ourselves over a pretty high bridge, and I was not trying to talk, as it was a draw bridge. I was freaked out, and didn’t want to look down as Dave was suggesting. We went in search of the Saturday morning farmer’s market, walking past where the basketball team plays. We took a few pictures of Dave taunting Theresa to send to her. Then, we did find the farmer’s market. Dave was saving himself for coffee beyond that. We didn’t see anything we wanted, so we pressed on. We ended up on the other side and found Voodoo by mistake! I waited for a few minutes, while Dave went into a coffee store nearby to buy round 1. It started to drizzle just a bit, but it wasn’t too bad. I decided Voodoo was too close to the kind of donuts we have where I work, so we headed to a different section of town for a different type of donut – Blue Star. And another line we found! This time, we waited. And waited. And waited. After about an hour or so, we made our way to the front of the line. I picked several to try, while Dave stayed by the seats to secure them for us to enjoy the donuts. We did, sharing a few, then taking the rest. We headed into the shopping district to check out the book store as well as some other stores. We ended up not eating lunch, since we were a fit full of donuts. After shopping a bit, we headed back to the hotel, which was still not quite ready. After having been up quite a bit during the day, I took a 30 minute nap until the room was ready. We went upstairs to freshen up a bit, changed, and then headed to an early dinner. We didn’t have reservations, so we decided to walk up and hope for the best at Le Pigeon. There were 10 seats at the bar, which are first come first serve. There were 8 people in front of us, and we were 9 and 10! Perfect! We had a great anniversary meal, then we slowly walked around back to the hotel. We were so stuffed, we couldn’t make it to dessert! There was a slightly dead mall there, but it still had some stores like Old Navy. I bought some things there, then headed back over to our hotel where there was a Burgerville. This is like the Portland In and Out, so Dave “had” to try it. I had a marionberry sundae, like a MCD’s, but with marionberries, while Dave had a sundae and tried a burger. He still thinks In and Out is better. We called it a day!

The next morning, Dave woke me up at 7 am, and he wanted me up and at ’em for brunch. Sunday brunch is nothing to joke about, so he didn’t want to miss out. We bused it out there, and we were the first in line at this place called Muscadine. It wasn’t even open yet! It was a joke among us and the three guys “behind” us that we better hurry up and get up when the hostess flipped the open sign over. We were the only ones for quite some time in this quaint little restaurant. Again, another great meal before we set out to do more sight seeing. We made our way down Alberta street, but many of the shops were still closed. The craft store was closed. Salt and Straw was not opening for another 1.5 hours. So I knew I wanted to come back. We made our way to the Rose Garden and walked around there, before heading over to the Aerial tram. GPS for Dave got us a bit stuck, and so I took matters into my own phone and we got to the base before the tram opened at 1 pm. We went up and down in less than 15 minutes. I was freaked out by the heights (it’s a theme!) We made it back on terra firma, and then we headed to a brewery since we had not yet made our way to one. We had a late lunch, and then made our way to the Nike Outlet on MLK. MLK seems to be the same no matter what area or town we find. A bit sketchy. We shopped a bit, then headed back to Alberta street. Dave dumped me off at the craft store, then headed to get coffee before we joined again for some ice cream. We waited in another hour-long line and basically ate this instead of dinner! We tried to go back downtown before Nordys closed, but that didn’t quite happen. We walked around again downtown, to the Powell’s bookstore again, to get the kids memorabilia. We got them a deck of cards, with Portland artists’ work, and a book of “wicked” that was used and in good condition. Dave wanted a late night dinner, just to get one more meal in. We chose Lardo, and I got a kale caesar salad, just for a good helping of veggies! We called it a day after packing up our stuff.

This morning, I’d forgotten to turn off the alarm on my phone. Good thing it was more reasonable than my Tuesday alarm! It helped get us moving, as we headed down for coffee. We checked out of the hotel after that and headed to the airport. We filled up Dave’s growler of beer for super cheap at the airport brewery to bring home. We made it home as planned, and went home to drop our stuff off first. We headed to get the kids after that. I let myself in, and I walked into the kitchen where Peyton was watching TV. She looked up, then came over for a super big hug. She’d been calling me throughout the days that we were gone. She just picked up the phone and would call. She would never leave a message, but when my caller ID said “No caller ID” I knew it was her! She just wanted to talk throughout the day and check in to see where we were. I told her that I’d bring her back some day and would check out the zoo and other sights.

In two days, we walked over 30 miles er my phone!

Playdate Fun!

Today, Peyton woke me up again, and it was 9 am! We cleaned up a bit; she cleaned her room, and I cleaned mine. H was coming back with us from school for the afternoon. We walked to school at around 11 am, and peyton was walking faster than she’d ever before! She was going to find out who her teacher was while I was verifying our school address. It took only a few minutes as there was no line. Peyton chatted with the office staff (more like the office staff chatted TO Peyton), while I got the paperwork done. Soon, we found out who the kids’ teachers were. Brandon owed me some worksheets before I’d tell him. Boy did that motivate him! We walked over to Brandon’s former 4th grade teacher who had F, G and H in her classroom. They were eating lunch (pizza!) and finishing up. Peyton was offered some, but she declined. We chatted a bit, and H wanted to know when her mom would be coming. She was in the office and heading over. I didn’t want to leave without checking out with her first, so we just hung out. Peyton did finally eat two slices of pizza since it was in her face and I encouraged her, since the teacher didn’t want to take home extra. When she got there, she gathered up her girls. She was super excited, and then asked me, “Robyn, who does Peyton have for her teacher?” I knew where she was going with this… I told her, and she told us, “H, YOU have Ms. D (Brandon’s 2nd grade teacher, whom he loved).” Then, she said, “Robyn, who does Brandon have for his teacher?” I told her, and she said, “G, YOU have Mrs. C (PTA teacher liaison).” Oh boy, we have 2 for 2 classes now! So, after that, we walked back home, but first H had to make a pit stop. We couldn’t find an open bathroom, so we went to CDC. Luckily, they were there! H went potty, while we chatted with Ms. Briana. She was still amazed both Peyton and H were now going to be 2nd graders. She remembers when both were mere 3 year olds, both not talking when they would say hi to them in the mornig. She didn’t know how they would turn out, and now says both are NOT shy! We said goodbye, then headed home on foot. The girls were chatty with one another, and they had a great time. They played on their own, had a snack, and then played some more. I joined them to make a puzzle, and we ended up not baking, since it was hot, and I didn’t want to make the kitchen any warmer. When her dad was off, her mom texted and asked if he can come over with the dog and get her. I told H, and then I offered to walk her back, since I wanted to get more steps. H didn’t mind at all, and I gave them a 30 minute warning. They scrambled to find more things to play with! I had been texting her mom pictures throughout the day. We gave H her bday present, belated, and her tooth was pulled out! H did it herself, and i quickly got a baggy for her to put it in. Luckily, she was a trooper with it, stopped the bleeding on her own, and did just fine with the whole thing. The girls even planned Halloween costumes! H had one in mind, and told P that they could both dress up. Peyton thought it was a great idea, especially since they were going to be in the same class and could parade together. I even asked H if she was going to do drama, since we were listening to music and she was so into singing. She told me no. I told her P would do it if she did it. She gave it a second thought. Peyton did nod, too. I think they’d both do it if the other one didn’t bail. But both of them will need extra shots of courage!

We walked her back, and Peyton walked right in to the house. She took her shoes off and hung out on the couch. I met her step-grandma and saw G who had been picked up from school. H’s dad came out and asked if Peyton was staying. Peyton nodded her head, looking too comfy! I did tell Peyton that we had to go, since Dave was still coming home. She got a bit snarky, but eventually, did come and walk home with me.

Full day away

Brandon’s been gone for now 24 hours. Peyton took her opportunity to whisper in my ear if she could stay with us. She told me to whisper back, but I laughed. I told her to go to her own bed, but when we went upstairs, I asked him if I could go get her.  Dave agreed! I asked him why not Brandon. His response, “He’s bony macaroni and she’s cuddly.”  I picked her up from her bed and carried her over. I banged her foot into one door and possibly her head into the next. But she didn’t wake up!

She also sleeps in! In fact I heard Dave leave for work, but we didn’t get up until much later. To the tune of, “Mommy, it’s 9:05!”  I then got up, got ready and we headed out on foot again. She dislikes it, but I told her acai bowl breakfasts were what was at our destination.  We walked through the neighborhood, saw a baseball mom coming out of her house, then headed into the local shopping center. We got two bowls and ate them there.  It was a bit too air conditioned, but we stuck it out. It took her awhile to finish, but she eventually did with some help.  We went next door to paint pottery. Bonnie had given me a gift certificate two years ago now! We picked a set of coasters and agreed to split up the project. We did unknowingly coordinate our colors. In fact, after I poured hers out, and got my own and went back to the table, we realized we had the same colors!  I told her to take her time. And she definitely did! Over three hours worth! We definitely earned out sitting fee as group after group came and went. We even saw a softball teammate.  The girls recognized each other but both were a bit embarrassed to say anything.  The moms finally took over and introduced the girls again. That mom had her hands full as she had L and her little sister.  We continued to paint and I finished up before Peyton. She was telling me about the time we went to Stanford to paint. I’d forgotten the location, but she was right. It was at T and C shopping center next door to the school.  She’d asked me how she got to the bed last night. I told her I had to carry her.  She laughed and couldn’t believe she didn’t remember. I even told her I’d bumped her into the walk and luckily, she found it funny. Finally, we finished up. She did a great job asking the attendant for help as well as asking another group to borrow the color she’d  wanted. She’s getting more confident now which is good to see. We walked back home with much less whining. Then I gave her a choice of piano or reading first. Both were undesirable but she chose piano. Then we read one of her online books before tuning into the olympics. We got up to 10k steps today!

Dave came home and decided to take her to golf land.  She schooled us in skeeball and came within 1000 points of today’s high score.  We played air hockey, and she lost graciously. And did some hoops and baseball throws at the clown. We ended with more olympics and a yogurt for her.  Tomorrow we find out the kids’ teachers!!

Late post

Julie and Theresa were gracious and planned a summer shindig for us all. They even arrived early to secure a spot for us. I wasn’t quite sure on bringing Brandon but Dave was loading up the car meaning he was ready. We made two stops to get coffee and donuts. We had a late start as we were watching the olympics and had nothing to do.  Dave had lots to keep them entertained: basketball, baseball and tennis. The kids managed to do all three!  I quarantined Brandon for the most part, telling him to not help himself to any food. Even still, that meant we had to. He was completely fine given he had wings, egg rolls, Spam musubi (the main reason Dave showed up that day, thanks to Bonnie for making it!!) and a donut. Soon the other kids showed up and Peyton became an honorary Brown boy. She played with Con and Lo climbing up a rock and watched as Con got soaked in the water structure.  They played together on the basektball court, too.  Brandon seemed to be fine when bocce ball was brought out. He had over eaten on the bad food and was complaining about his tummy hurting again, but really, he was fine enough to fight with his sister.  Martin did a great job of referring and the game ended in a tie.  We stayed out long enough for Kathy and Kira to show up. We took a big group picture before breaking down our gear. With many hands, we made light work.

The next day, we went kite flying again and scootering

Monday was mommy camp part two. We had piano and homework in the morning. In the afternoon, we went to piano lessons before Dave took Brandon to his final class.

Peyton and I took my car to get the recall fixed.  And we walked to the book store about 1.5 miles away.  She even turned down McDonald’s looking at me funny when I suggested we stop there instead of going all the way to the store. The dealer called as we made our way to the store.  It wasn’t long enough to really browse before turning around.  She did make it back by the service staff noticed she looked hot. We headed home and cooked dinner- pot pie per her request.

Dave asked if we planned to match.

Day 5 Mommy Camp

Today, the kids were playing in Brandon’s room. The door was shut, and I thought they were playing with his confiscated legos. I opened the door to them playing Beyblades, and both jumped, telling me I scared them. Brandon was hoping I didn’t wake up because it was too loud. Actually, I woke up because it was too quiet. Once they had been found by me, they wanted to play unmuffled. They got up and around to getting out of the house. I got them breakfast here first, then we headed up to our trek. I guess it turned out that we waited out traffic a bit, but they were too chatty (read: arguing) on the way up. I told them I had to drive and couldn’t be bothered with bickering. I finally turned on a timer and told them no noise for the last 15 minutes of the drive. We made it in 10, so they didn’t need the extra five, but it was still silence nonetheless. We parked close to the museum, then headed in. There is a special Pinocchio exhibit which has a separate entrance, so we did that first. We walked around there for awhile before heading back into the main gallery. We spent over 2 hours looking around before taking a break to eat lunch. The kids were happy to eat on the property, as the kids’ meal was a ham and cheddar sandwich cut out in a Mickey head. Peyton wasn’t fooled; she told me, “That’s probably just a cookie cutter they used.” I was more concerned that she would get the cut off part, too, as she would still be hungry if only eating Mickey. Yes, she did get the “whole” sandwich, so she got the negative space of the sandwich. Brandon was happy for the chili, “Walt’s favorite”, while I had a small salad. We took a table outside, which was a bit chilly, but we were prepared, especially having been up to the City on Monday. We headed back inside, since the kids wanted to explore again. They wanted to go back to some of the exhibits and play around. We had Pinocchio tickets for the 3pm show. I was struggling to get there, since I knew “nap time”. We went into the theater about 20 minutes to show time. We were followed by two older couples, so I was trying to keep the kids quiet while we waited. Finally, the announcer came in to set up the show. The kids settled down when the movie started. When the lights went out, Brandon called out, “Nap time!” I’m not sure if that was for my benefit or what. I had one kid on either side of me, so I had quiet time. I did want to see the movie after seeing the exhibits and how forward-thinking the studios were for their time. I did wake up toward the end, and told the kids we were leaving as soon as the show ended, so there was no disappointment or discontent. Both nodded in agreement. We did stop at the potty before heading home. The drive home was a quiet one, to say the least. Neither woke up until we got off the freeway. I was recapping the pinocchio movie, and didn’t remember seeing his nose grow. Brandon said, “OH, that happened when you were sleeping.” haha…can’t fool him. I asked Peyton what the best part of the museum was, and she said, “Everything!” Brandon liked the animatronics (my phone memory was full during the video for him) and the instruments, matching them to the soundtrack, which we all participated in.

Day 2 Mommy Camp

Though yesterday didn’t really count as we weren’t really on my schedule, but alas, it’s Tuesday. I didn’t set any alarms today, but my body woke me up around 7 am. It was still silent, though Dave had left already for work. Soon, the pitter patter of little feet running to use the potty first thing in the morning was soon heard. Followed by a bigger pitter patter. Brandon told me he was going to go do his requisite worksheet pages. We got the morning started with breakfast and looking up our ingredients. An early store run was greeted by a mostly empty store, with an occasional mom on maternity leave with teeny offspring being bjorned. We got our things and headed back home to get started for lunch. I wanted to prep everything and have lunch with our food that we made. Brandon wanted to make ratatouille and Peyton was joining the French theme with a quiche. We had overlapping ingredients, so it worked out. We started with Brandon first, then Peyton made her quiche. We had the ratatouille for lunch, and despite neither kid liking yellow squash or zucchini, both ate their portions! Peyton even enjoyed it with the eggplant, which she doesn’t normally like. I think the dollop of marscapone cheese was what tipped it over for her. After they saw the quiche come out, both were sent up to nap. Peyton went down first, and Brandon practiced piano. They went down around 130 pm, and I’d set my alarm to get us up by 315 pm to get ready for practice. My alarm went off, and there was not a peep in the house. Finally, I started getting ready, and slowly, kids started to wake up. We headed to practice and coach and his daughter were there already. Brandon was Peyton’s catcher, though the two kids were messing around a bit during pitching practice. Soon, practice started with 7 kids total, and Dave ended up showing up later. Brandon brought a book to read. We came home after practice and had our quiche and leftover ratatouille. Dave initially didn’t want any, but after trying it, and having both kids ask how their respective dishes were, he did admit it was yummy! Brandon was looking for pointers, and Dave told him it was best to cut the veggies in the same size to have cooking be more consistent. The eggplant was larger and more “al dente” than the rest of the veggies. Brandon told Dave, “Mommy is teaching me to cook without salt!” He kept trying to add it where it was called for in the recipe, but I told him it wasn’t necessary, as he just needed to get used to eating without it. He admitted it was still yummy without the salt.

Here are the pictures from today, along with Peyton’s performance.

Spring Break

We started off with a rain out of Peyton’s game on Saturday last week. We headed out after her game, but we had to pack up first, so it took awhile. We stopped a few times, and we ended up at DTF, but had to wait 1.5 hours. We walked around GLendale, waiting for our table to “call” us. Once we were seated, Dave went nuts with the ordering. Brandon ate 18 XLB, but we ran out. This was also after eating veggies, noodles and a pre-snack of a croissant while we were walking around. I had to tap out, and Peyton declared “I quit” half way through. We headed the rest of the way back to Dave’s parents’ house for bedtime.
We headed to the park in the morning, and Peyton took it easy. She didn’t go on anything new, staying safe with the rides she knows. She was excited to go on Hyperspace Mountain again, and enjoying the Food and Wine festival activities. We bought an Annual Pass food pass, meaning we had a discount on several food items. It was only when we saw the Kao’s the next day that she got a bit more daring. This day, she went on Splash with Mckayla, riding in the back together. Only 7 are allowed in a log, so we split up, with Peyton going with the Kao’s and Brandon going with us. Later, Brandon took Marcus’ place on Indy, since Marcus was too short. Brandon admitted he was a bit nervous, but he rode the ride in any case. He even thanked them on his own for taking him. I had Marcus and Peyton, while Dave was grabbing a fast pass for us. We waited in line for Mickey’s magical map, and even got first row seats for the three younger kids, then eventually, just the girls, but after a few minutes, the show was called off for some reason, after the first or second number. It interrupted naptime for the adults! We headed into toon town and got on Roger Rabbit. Brandon’s adult of choice was Uncle Ted! The girls got to ride together, while Dave and I had the other half of Ted and Brandon’s cab. We also did a pirates ride all together, and I snuck in a nap on this ride. We headed outside the park for dinner that we’d placed reservations earlier in the day. After eating our fill, the girls wanted to ride two Fantasyland rides, while Dave, Michelle and the boys went to the submarines. We then all met up for the parade and ended our evening with fireworks.

We had a late night back at home, and we took it easy on Tuesday. We met up with Mike and Yonhee before they headed out to their European babymoon. They saw the magic of Brandon’s eating ability, with Brandon and Mike as the last men standing eating after we were all done. We ate dinner at home with Dave’s parents that night, and turned in early. We headed back to the park for Wednesday. Peyton continued on her daring streak, riding Splash two more times, and then she agreed to the Matterhorn. She wasn’t happy about it at first, but after she rode on it, it was her new favorite ride! We went again! This time, with smiles, and the front seat! Dave sat out, as it was throwing him around too much. Wednesday, we headed out early to watch the basketball games. We went to a Mexican place and sat where we could see the games – Kobe’s last, and the Warriors’ quest for 73 wins in one season. We stayed to eat up until half-time then we headed home to have the kids shower up while we watched the remainder of the game. It ended up being the Lakers game, since the Warriors game was pretty much over.
Thursday was our last day of the park. We rode on the fire truck to reminisce, as the driver was there 10 years ago when we first brought Brandon. He was old back then, so you can just imagine. We were so happy to see him again, as we’d seen him periodically over the years. In hindsight, we wished we’d had a picture of him with Brandon when he was itty bitty. He had a love of fire trucks, so we made it a point to ride it, even with the stroller, all folded up. Walt himself used to drive that very car up and down Main Street. Peyton enjoyed Splash and Hyperspace mountain on that day. We also headed back to see the same animator at the Off the Page store, while the boys rode Tower of Terror, which Peyton still won’t go on willingly. We ended the evening with a quick line for TSM and our hyperspace mountain fast passes that we’d waited for after riding it earlier in the day.

Friday, Dave bought tickets for us to go to the SF vs LAD game. We went shopping for LAD gear for the game for the kids, and i ended up getting Warriors stuff. We had dim sum with Dave’s parents, then headed to beat traffic. The game was not until 7 pm, but we were on the road by 1pm. All the passengers took a nap, while Dave got us to Griffin Observatory. We walked from our parking spot to the building, which had been recently renovated. We walked around for quite awhile and saw other fans, both SF and LA, doing the same. We then headed to the stadium, and we were the first in line at the pre-paid parking lot. One of the security men must have heard us yelling at the kids who were restless, and asked us to jump the line. We zipped up just a few minutes ahead of them opening the gates. We then headed to our club level security gates and waited our turn there, too. This time, the time was firm. We wanted to make sure we got the free giveaway Jackie Robinson jerseys, as it was his day, April 15th. All the players wear the same number, #42. I was worried the kids wouldn’t hang in there, since we’d been out all day long. Brandon was the one who wasn’t interested in taking pictures and didn’t want to take the walking tour all throughout the stadium. Peyton was enjoyed herself thoroughly, stopping to take pictures of her beloved Kershaw memorabilia throughout the stadium. We had great seats, and once the game started, Peyton was into it, cheering for her players. The Giants weren’t doing well, so I had tuned out for awhile, but the kids got up during the seventh inning stretch to walk around. They lasted through the whole game and then we went down ON to the field for fire works. They weren’t as impressive as the Disney ones we’d seen, but they were super close. Dave wanted to beat the traffic out, so we left in the middle of the fireworks and caught the finale as we reached the car. We got out of there quickly, and we were on our way home.

Saturday, we headed out after a quick breakfast at home. We packed our stuff up, and we headed out, but not before making a stop near Chinatown to get Phillipe’s french dip sandwiches. Dave’s mom wondered why he didn’t eat much breakfast. It was because of this! We walked around Union Station and my old residency site, which has cleaned up a bit. It is still “urban”, but maybe a little less scary. We then went to Porto’s to get some more food for the road. After that, we settled in for the longer haul, not stopping until Harris Ranch. Then, Peyton had an emergency pit stop at Casa De Fruta, not being able to hold her bladder until the outlets as Dave had hoped. We also stopped at the outlets, then finally made it to a poke stop to get food for home. We got our stuff home and unpacked. We had to order a dryer as our current one broke, and then we will finish up the rest of the laundry. Today was a typical Sunday; practice for Brandon and groceries for Peyton and me. I dropped her off at practice, and then took Brandon back with me. All ready to start the new week!

Our long weekend

I got off work as usual on Tuesday and came home to pack up before going back and getting the kids. Peyton was at CDC while Brandon was at band. We dropped off their things, and then we headed out. We ran into a bit of traffic; well, a whole lot of traffic. It was the typical workday traffic, and we were right in the thick of it. It took us awhile to get out of the major traffic. Peyton had fallen asleep after a long day, while Brandon was making the most of the daylight and drawing. Soon, she had woken up, and he ran out of things to do. That was our time to stop for dinner. The kids followed me in for sandwiches, while Dave ordered Mexican food. We headed out on our way, and we braved rain and more traffic. I was dozing in and out, while the kids were mostly asleep. We didn’t get into Dave’s parents’ house until after midnight! It took us so long! This trip, I brought sleeping bags, since I knew it was going to be cold, and we were on the ground. Dave decided he didn’t want to pack his, so he got the makeshift blankets thrown about. It didn’t take long for the kids to get settled after brushing their teeth and saying hi and then goodnight to the grandparents. Brandon woke up before my alarm went off at 645 am. I’d forgotten to turn it off, but he managed to wake the entire room. We used that as our cue to get ready to go to the park. We were able to be out on the road close to 9 am, as we were planning to meet up with the Shih’s. They were leaving from further away, so it was going to be awhile. It took us some time to navigate around the parking lot closures. This gave Peyton time to sleep, as she was getting a quick nap in. We arrived to a crowded park, with a crowd index of 93 per Dave’s app. We got fast passes for Star Tours, and then proceeded to the Hyperspace Mountain line. We didn’t want to miss out, since it would be too late for a fast pass for that ride. The standby wait was 70 minutes. We proceeded in line. We’ve never waited this long for a ride, especially with two kids. They managed, and they spent their time on the phone as well as playing verbal games like back in the day. We did also play a bit of Charades, but nothing lasted more than 15 minutes. We looked around at the Miss States as well as Miss Cities traveling around with their tiaras in tow. Peyton made a game of the states and state capitols as I was quizzing her. Surprisingly, she knows some, and I don’t even, as I was looking them up on my phone for her! The wait was worth it, as all of us enjoyed our ride! Brandon has been timing the picture-taking perfectly, and he is able to get some funny ones in! We got in the new Episode of Way of the Jedi experience, which is a 4-d type show mashing all of the clips of the first 6 episodes of SW with clips of the 7th coming out soon. We then met up with the Shih’s as we were eating lunch. Four of them (Dave and the oldest three) were able to do Star Tours, while the other of us walked around the Star Traders area. After that, we got fast passes for Buzz. While they were waiting for those to activate, they all watched the jedi training. It was at this time we saw Kristin and her family. She was waiting with a sleeping Kiera, while I saw Robert and Chase. We chatted a bit, then I headed back to my group. Buzz was then ready. The older kids are able to ride together since they are above 7. The younger two have to ride with the adults. We then had to go out to the restaurant for our reservations. We had early ones at 5 pm. We had a nice meal, with the kids all sitting together, and the adults all clustered together. After dinner, we headed for coffee, and then back to meet up with Jeff’s cousins for It’s a Small World holiday. We managed to commandeer an entire boat of relatives! We had 14 total in our party. The oldest 3 kids navigated for us, then we staggered the younger kids amongst us. The older ones were fine since we were all sitting directly behind them. After that ride, we called it a night, since we had to get up early the next morning for turkey-trotting.

Brandon was starting to get sick, with a cough overnight. My alarm woke us all up, and he was slow to awaken at 615 am. Both kids were pretty much out. I felt bad waking them, but I’d all paid for us to run. Brandon said he didn’t want to run, but we told him he had to come with us. The Shih’s were going to feed the homeless, and I didn’t think the grandparents would be able to watch Brandon. But, he started to improve as we drove. Peyton fell asleep again, but she woke up when we arrived. We parked, got our bibs, and waited a short time to start ohttp://tsaobug.com/blog/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fblog%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D15074%26action%3Dedit%26message%3D10&autofocus%5Bcontrol%5D=header_imageur 5k. There were way fewer people there than ours last year. Like 10% of the population last year. Because of that, Brandon was not worried about losing me. I told him he could stay with me, but if not, I’d see him at the end. We stayed together for the first mile, but as soon as he saw water, he stopped. He caught up, but then fell further behind. It was an out and back race, so at 1.5 miles, I turned around. I saw him a little further back, and I told him to go all the way to the end and then turn around, NOT turn around right then, thus cheating the system. I made my way back the 1.5 miles, taking it slow and steady, not having run for over a month. When I got close to the end, I saw my support team of Dave and Peyton waving me in. I told them to look out for Brandon. When I got to the end, I grabbed my medal and waited at the finish for Brandon. I was able to video him in, seeing him coming down the home stretch:

After his finish, I took him to get his pie. We ate it while finding Dave and Peyton. She had a few more minutes before we started her race. But first, the kids were invited to do some dancing. Peyton headed over as the kids were asked to gather. They warmed up by doing the Whip and Nae Nae. The lead was calling kids up to do the dance, but the kid whose mom wanted her up there didn’t know how to dance it. Meanwhile, I knew Peyton did, but she would never have the guts to do it up there. It’s more than she dances at Friday flag, which doesn’t say much.

After that, the diaper dash was run, then the 4-6 year olds, who were running 100 meters. I think it was supposed to be the 4-5 year olds, as I held her back. Then they called 6-10 year olds, and I had her run with them, as they were running 1/2 mile. Some parents were running with their kids, and I saw one kid trip and fall, so I reminded Peyton to watch her feet. She tends to trip anyway, and she was running with a large group. Here’s her start…she’s jockeying for position with the big kids! Brandon and Dave were on the right hand side of the chute.

Here’s her finish:

We went to get her pie, but she wasn’t interested. She just wanted water. I picked her piece up for her, to save it for later. She was a bit whiny back in the car. Dave wanted to stop for proper coffee, since he got jipped at the roach coach. He went to a strip mall with a fancy coffee place, and a Marie Callendar’s. We were having hot pot for dinner, and it wouldn’t be including turkey, so I wanted to check and see if there were turkey meals there, to bring my own, so to speak. I carried Peyton with me through the parking lot before setting her down. She then pointed to her mouth, and whined some more. I brought her to the bushes, and she started vomiting into them. She wasn’t done, but since she saturated the area in front of her, and I was smelling it, I moved her down a few feet. I was holding her medal and hair while she was doing her thing. She moved a few more feet down, and then she hurled some more. After she had gotten a good bit of the hedge, she said she felt better. She was acting totally normally after that, though a bit more pale. I texted Dave the play by play, and I was saddened that there were no more turkey dinners available to purchase. People were in elaborate color-coded lines waiting for big boxes of pre-set meals. The Shih’s were nearby, but Dave didn’t want to go and pick up food to donate and then serve food, so we decided to eat instead. We went to eat at the local Vietnamese place that we usually go to when we take a break from the park. I texted Theresa the picture of the menu, and she sounded like she was also in the area. She declared she was, then made the move to come over. We made room at the table for her and Martin, but by the time they arrived, the table next to us was open. They sat there, and we ate together. Dave had ordered some for later as well. Theresa and Martin were bringing back rolls to their family, too! We said goodbye to them and headed back to the house. I went back with Brandon, while Dave took Peyton for a walk. She had slept on the way back and was almost 100% by then. Brandon and I showered up and read, while the two of them walked their way back. They were able to visit with a horse there! Dave took pictures of her petting the horse. I was wondering what was taking them so long, but I suspected maybe they were there with the animals, as we had done that last time. Soon, the Shih’s arrived home, and the cousins were playing together. They all did a great job playing with each other, and only our siblings had problems with one another as usual. We ended up separating them, with the boys and Abby staying behind while Meg and I went out to shop for gifts for Peyton’s gift exchange this Tuesday. Meg needed small gifts for the girls’ school fundraiser. While we were out, Meg wanted to get a pie. We went to another MC, and I decided to buy some sides – sweet potatoes with crumble, green beans and carrots and cranberry sauce. I know it didn’t go well with hot pot, but I wanted part of Thanksgiving dinner. At least the healthier part of it. After we got back, the boys went out for coffee and some other desserts. We all had a nice dinner, with the kids strategically positioned away from the two burners. After, we had pumpkin pie, while Peyton had a walnut, red bean pastry. We sent the kids to bed to get a good night’s sleep for another day at the park. We headed out together, but swapped siblings. We took Abby and “gave” the Shih’s Peyton. We arrived at the same floor, and then headed to get coffee and fast passes. We got fast passes for Space, then hopped over to get ones for Soarin’. We hung out at DCA for most of the day, getting in Toy Story Mania, the Christmas/Feliz Navidad parade, Goofy’s sky school, the Symphony Swings, Little Mermaid, Screaming for the big kids and Tower of Terror for Brandon and Dave, and the Frozen Singalong (or what I like to say, “Naptime!”). We then hopped over to get on Hyperspace mountain before heading back for a later dinner of hot pot leftovers. Dinner wasn’t quite ready, so the kids all showered. Dinner was ready by the time Peyton was just getting her turn. I had her shower up, too, and by the time we were done, everyone except us and Jeff had started eating. I told her that they hadn’t waited for her and to hurry. Her response was, “Because they’re not patient people!” Jeff did tell her that he was patient, and he waited for her 🙂

We got up the next morning much later than we had. Peyton was confined to our room until I was able to shower, so they didn’t fight. After she was done, I let her go, and then fighting ensued. We ate breakfast, packed up, and we were on the road by 10 am. But we ended up meeting the Shih’s for coffee, and then lunch for the road before actually saying bye. We headed out, and we stopped at the first set of outlets. We hit traffic back home, and we got into the second set of outlets before 9 pm. But we found out they were open until 10 pm, so I didn’t rush! We headed for a late dinner, still in search of a turkey dinner. None was found at the restaurant we went to, but got something to eat before heading home. I slept with Peyton to get more sleep. And sleep we did! Until 830 am! Brandon woke up early, and then went back to sleep for a little bit longer per Dave. Dave took him to work with him, along with his homework. I practiced piano with Peyton, did her writing piece, and then headed to the stores to get our Pixie-ing materials. We were sent an email from some families in our neighborhood from school. We are participating in a pixie exchange, like a holiday doorbell ditch. Almost 30 families are participating, and we all will swap gifts. Peyton and I did some pinteresting and got some ideas. I’ll post more later. We came home and worked on our gift ideas. I think they turned out rather well! Brandon and Dave came home after awhile, and then we practiced piano, too. The kids got off to bed a bit later than usual, but we did have a final packed day of activities to complete our weekend. When asked what the favorite part of Thanksgiving was, Peyton responded, “It all. I liked it all!” Brandon’s response was, “Tower of Terror with just Daddy.” Funny…

One last time to get their record – 15!

Last Day of Summer!

This morning, I snoozed, as we had nothing to do besides the museum at 10 am. The kids got up, and Peyton asked to play piano. I think she knows it’s inevitable, and she would prefer to get it over with first. After she was done, Brandon was up next. I’d fed him while Peyton was playing, and then I fed her while he was. It worked out nicely. They both got ready; I did a vacuum of downstairs, and then we headed out. We met Chrissi at the entrance, and both kids presented her with an apple. She headed back to work, and the kids explored. Peyton had been there most recently for her last kinder field trip. They went through pretty quickly, and we were done in under 2 hours. We headed out for lunch at this cafe that Dave had scoped out before. It was kitty corner to our parking spot, so it worked out nicely. We hung out outside, and we split a chicken waffle and salad three ways. It was just enough for all of us, then we headed to TJ’s for a grocery round for tomorrow. We came home for a nap, and then it was time for class reveal. Both kids have been napping, which is great! Both kids were super excited for school to start. Brandon kept saying, “I can’t believe tomorrow’s the first day of school!” We headed to school at 4 pm, as I’d wanted to wait a bit for the crowds to die down. It was perfect timing, and we walked right up to our windows. We got Peyton’s first, then Brandon’s. He waited in his own line, and I’d snapped pictures of Peyton’s class. She didn’t see her name, so while I went to Brandon’s window, she looked on her own. I finally helped her with hers, and then scrolled down to see the other kids in their classes. They have friends in both classes, and Peyton was excited for her teacher. Brandon said he got the second coolest teacher in 4th grade. (They only have 4 teachers, and one of whom is a new one). We met some of the parents and friends, and one of Peyton’s friends has the same teacher, who moved from K to 1st grade. But they are in the same classroom, the kinder wing. He already told her, “First grade is going to suck.” I felt like telling her that was our situation last year. We said hi to Mrs. M and Ms. S, both kids’ kinder teachers. We said hi to some baseball and softball families before heading home. I’d taken pictures of all the classrooms, and we were reviewing them when Dave got home. Brandon was trying to contain his excitement, but he couldn’t. If he was excited before viewing the class lists, he was even more so when we saw Grace was in his class. At dinner, Dave was asking when Peyton and Hope would be in the same class. I commented, “Well, it took him 5 years.” Brandon said, “What do you mean?” Peyton said, “You and Grace in the same class.” She totally knew what I was talking about. Before class reveal, Brandon said he’d do student council; at least try for it. And he didn’t change his mind after. We got the kids showered up, read and brushed by 745 pm, a little later than “usual”. We’re excited for tomorrow!
