Snow Trip!

We headed out on our trip early in the morning to make several stops along the way to deliver GS cookies. We knew the weather would be bad, but we braved it anyway. Our reservation didn’t start until Monday, which is when the first storm was supposed to be. We got to my mom’s with rain, then Dave changed the tires. We proceeded with a set of winter snow tires and packed with chains as well. It was uneventful until the last 15 miles, when there was a report of an overturned car, “stuck in the trees below”. We turned around to get groceries, since we were only 30 minutes away at “normal” speeds, which is still only about 40 mph. We got some food to take up with us, but nothing too perishable. We went back to the spot of the accident, and there was still a slow down, but at least it wasn’t the earlier standstill with the engine turned off. The kids were excited to finally arrive. Brandon had blown through much of his stash from his backpack. Since we weren’t travelling that quickly, Peyton was able to read and take naps here and there. They did reasonably well, and I think the danger of the snow everywhere helped keep them calm and busy looking outside. We headed to a saloon/BBQ place for a nice meal. We walked around a bit, then headed inside for s’mores. Tuesday, we had a “play” day, where we walked around the dwindling shops that we used to go to, ran into Ted, along with going for an impromptu ice skating session only to find that it had just ended and hockey had just started. The kids (and Dave and I) enjoyed watching the practice with the big guys. We did that for awhile before we let them go nuts with the snow out front of the ice center.  One dad was walking out with his family and dared the kids to hit him with a snowball.  The kids looked at us and couldn’t believe they were being taunted and looked at us for permission. He said something to the effect of “You couldn’t even hit me if you tried!”    We nodded permission, and Peyton fired a snowball hitting the dad right in the bottom.  He didn’t say or do anything but his wife said, “You have good aim!”   We then headed to our dinner reservations. It was a German place recommended by Michelle. It was super yummy, and fortunately, Ted reminded us to not over-order as the portions are big. We ended our night early as the kids had all day lessons today. This was their first time in all day lessons, and I was a bit worried about 1) pee, and 2) falling off the lift. We dropped them off at 830 am, and they just went back to get their gear. The attendants at the bottom of the hill all marveled at today’s snow conditions, with one guy claiming it was the best snow this season. And we weren’t in it! It was also supposed to be super cold, so we had to get the kids some last minute gear on the recommendation of the ski school ladies. We headed to a breakfast spot we used to frequent when we came up for college. We then took a stroll around the lake and in the park area as well as gambled a bit before coming back for lunch in our room. I brought gym clothes and was determined to use them, so I did the treadmill for 3 miles to pad my steps for the day. We need to go get them at 345 pm, and we’re just waiting around to hear all about how their day went!

While we were shopping for video games, we found a sega compilation for the PS.  Brandon told Peyton about it but said, “It’s so old, it’s from the 90’s!”
