Brandon's first tournament is tomorrow, with two games to play, and then Sunday's bracket play.
Today, after much anticipation, we learned the results of Peyton's tryout last week. It was a last minute tryout, and I wanted to see how she stacked up with the older players outside of our home league. This was travel ball. This was the higher level of play for her. We had friends who were also trying out, but she was still the youngest or second youngest out there. She held her own, but I was hedging our bets and telling her that she most likely wouldn't make it, and she could try out again next year. She agreed, and she knew better than to lose it over something like this. She did her best and gave lots of hustle.
Through the week, my friend had been in contact with the coach, as she had known him from the regular season. Here is what he had to say:
"Loanna said they haven't decided the teams yet but she said the coaches liked pt "
I thought they were just being nice since they know us.
"Cuz leela and nat showed up with p. So if it was a being nice thing she wouldn't have told me what they thot of the other two"
Then earlier this week, my first day off I received, "Good morning! Coaches for the 10's team are interested in Peyton, Naleo, and other Payton… Jazzy would love to play with them, especially Peyton. Does she wanna join team for Fall? "
"I'm pretty sure you'll get an email based on that text "
(Peyton is "other Payton" in this context)
From the coach, via my friend "Ok, we got Naleo on board too but we want other Peyton. Should I reach out to the family or have you do it?
She told him she already told us.
"Sounds good, I liked the other P all Rec season. She has potential "
Peyton's Rec season was a disaster in the coaching aspect, but it allowed her prime spots to play, like pitcher and short stop. But weird to know that the other dad, who wasn't really a paid attention! Dave was warned about him but he'd not shown any animosity across the field. He's a big dude but overall knows his stuff. He won't be coaching this team, again since his daughter is on it, he doesn't want "daddy ball".
Yesterday, I got this "You two and other P will get call or email tonight. The 10's are still getting requests but got what's needed already!💪🏽⚾️"
But still no email. Ugh. It was dragging out.
Late last night: "Sorry so late, we all just got out of tough decision making. No daddy ball here, we left out the owners niece, he's the ad at DM (high school) but unfortunately she just won't fit the team. She/other players will still be allowed to workout and practice on their skills with us as much as they want. They want to email you tomorrow morning, said it's too late tonight as some kids back in school but I had to touch base with you."
He said nice things, but I wanted to see "the email" to confirm before informing her other two coaches. One coach pulled me aside Wednesday to talk, and I thought he had heard something about her try outs. He just wanted to chat. But I'd let him know that Peyton was being considered for this team.
Today, Dave got an email that we'd been awaiting, one way or another…it started like this:
"Congratulations I would like extend an offer to your daughters to play for Mission City Outsiders for the fall season. Your daughter's had great tryouts and I believe have what it takes to play at the A ball level and look forward to improving there skills this fall."
Yikes! It just got real!! Now we have to go about informing the other coaches that Peyton will have other commitments. And our family will go in two different directions in fall with both kids on travel teams.
