This past weekend, Brandon had his turn in the tourney circuit.
We had one game on Saturday at 245 pm, so I had us all packed and ready for camping. Unfortunately, he had a game at 715 pm, so he couldn't come, and I didn't want to miss out on watching, so we stayed around instead of going up camping with the rest of the group. We got to watch a good game against a "rival" team (he's been to pitching lessons at this facility). Luckily, they pulled out the victory, with Brandon having 2 walks, and 2 base hits. He had one RBI, and he scored a run as well. It was stressful watching the game, as Dave was there in the stands with us. We headed out for camp after the game was over and we took some pictures.
We arrived right at dinner time, so Peyton helped me carry her stuff in to camp, while I set up the tent with Ted, Michelle, and Theresa. When I was done quickly getting our gear in the tent for bedtime, Peyton had already been given food along with the other kids! The kids played together, hammocked, and had contests to see who could get the light flyers up the highest. The kids all stayed up late playing and eating s'mores, but at "lights out" (10 pm) , they all washed up and got ready for bed. The two pairs of siblings were sent to their respective tents. I got Peyton into ours, a little 2 man, that was nice and cozy (you can't stand up inside). She changed her pants, and I told her I'd be with the adults. She told me, "I'm good." She had her light, had gone potty, and had her sleeping bag. I checked if she needed anything else, and she repeated, "Nope, I'm good." And I walked away. And nothing. She didn't make a noise. Did not cry. Did not ask when I'd come back. Never once got out. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. This camping thing is no big deal to her anymore! We were talking about mountain lions and bears at the fire, and I thought I probably should go check on her, but I didn't. When the adults went to sleep at midnight, and I went to the tent to change, she moved a bit, and I asked her if she needed to go potty. She said, "Nope." And that was it. We slept all night long! My wake up call came with a loud bird, and a tap on my shoulder. I tried to snooze it, and ignore, but the tapping persisted. She told me, "I have to go potty." And that was it. We got up, brushed teeth, and then came back and laid down for another half hour to hour before she heard kids' voices and asked, "Can I go?" I had her go get the donuts out of the car and pack up her own stuff and carry it to the car. She really pulled her own weight! I took down the tent and got everything in the car before relaxing for donuts and coffee. Initially, Ted had asked her if she was hungry and wanted food. Bonnie asked, too, but she didn't respond. She only wanted me. I told her I was busy, and she went back and stood in front of Ted, who asked her again. Her desire for donuts outweighed her desire to not talk to Ted. Luckily, he came through for her.
The kids played a bit more while the rest of camp packed up. We took a group photo for memory's sake, and I was getting updates from Brandon's 1030 am game. I didn't want to rush home for it, but if they won, they would play at 245 pm . They pulled out the win, and that allowed for us to come home, shower up, do a load of laundry, and then turn around and make it for the game. Peyton had napped in the car on the way back from camp. She fell asleep before we even got to the freeway! We got to the game and found Dave. The kids played another great game and were going to the finals! They played the team that spanked them on Saturday night. (They were losing so badly, the coach tried Brandon out at pitcher). They lost again but they came in second in the tourney! Great first showing with this team which has promise.
Here are the pictures!
she couldn't keep her up eyes open with the flash. But enjoyed the s'more!
