Last Tourney!

This was the last tourney and we were headed to Tahoe. We actually headed up Thursday night to my mom’s, then went up to Tahoe on Friday morning. We booked a last minute reservation in a dumpy motel, but it’s close to where we were hanging out. Dave had a conference call to make at 10 am after we had a quick breakfast up in Tahoe. He went to our motel for wifi, while I took the kids to stroll down the street. The team was to meet up at the beach at 10 am, and it was just around then. I decided to walk up and down to check out the little stores, and suddenly, we were upon the beach. Peyton thought she saw her coach and teammate, but I highly doubted it. But sure enough, as we got closer, it was their family! They had their chairs, tents, and coolers headed to the beach. We set up with them, and the kids, who were changed and ready for water, joined the play. Dave soon found us, and we set up right next to them. It was overcast, and the water was frigid, however the kids did not care one bit. They had the time of their lives, and soon after, teammate after teammate showed up until we had most of the team there. We ended up staying out there until 6 pm, with the sun fully showing up in the afternoon, meaning we were out on the beach over 8 hours.

We headed back to the motel and cleaned up. We met up with the team at 730 pm for dinner at a fancier hotel up there. There were over 20 of us, 6 families, and we were set up at a long table. Unfortunately, the hotel staff couldn’t accommodate our large party, despite asking us to be seated. We ended up there until 930 pm, and we were all grumpy because it took so long to get our food. Brandon’s was the last to arrive, chicken strips, and he did wait patiently, despite normally getting “hangry”. He had the girls to keep him distracted, so it was okay for him, I suppose. He was at the other end of the table, so we didn’t hear much from him. We went back to the motel, and brushed up for bedtime. Luckily, the Saturday games didn’t start until 11 am. We didn’t have to get to the field until 9 am, however we still did arrive by 830 am, nice and early. The team won the first game, against a team that had previously blown us out. Then, the next team, we beat 16-0, the largest margin we’d ever had all season long. We had a little break, in which we had lunch that we packed, and then the final game was against a tough team. We lost 8-3 in that game. But having the third game early meant that we could go to the pool. We had checked into our nice hotel for Saturday, at the Northstar resort.

We had all the team over for a pool party, only there had been thunder nearby. Whenever there was thunder heard, then 30 minutes needed to pass before anyone was allowed in the pool. We started at 5 pm, and just as the next 30 minutes was to pass, there was another round of thunder heard. So, it kept getting pushed back further and further. Finally, at 630 pm, they were given the all clear. The pool was supposed to close at 7 pm, but the nice lifeguards extended the time until 730 pm. The kids were gotten out of the pool by then, and we all headed back to shower up for the next day, which started at 11 am, meaning we didn’t have to get to the field until 10 am. We enjoyed our three bedroom condo, larger than our first one that we owned! There were two bedrooms downstairs, one with a queen bed, one with a pair of twin beds, along with a full bathroom, and then the middle floor had the living room, large kitchen, and dining room, while the upstairs had a full bathroom and another bedroom with a queen bed. It was pretty warm upstairs, so we all took over the bottom third of the condo. Neither kid wanted to sleep alone, so they both took over the twin beds, and because of the long day and swimming, they were out like lights!
We woke up on Sunday, and got out of the condo by 830 am or so and took our time getting in. The second field was about 30 minutes away, so we wanted to get a headstart out. Peyton basically woke up to go into the car to nap again. That would be the first nap of 3 for the day. The game we played on Sunday was against a team that we’d beaten by one run the day before. They were a tough team, and though we had an early lead, we blew it in one inning. Peyton had a nice play from right field to throw out the batter who tried to run to second on her. She fired the ball to second base for the out. But, we just couldn’t put enough runs up. Here is one hit of Peyton’s on Sunday, against a pitcher that our coach said was one of the fastest we’ve seen:

such a pretty background!

She got all the way around on this hit, meaning that she timed it well. One of the older siblings took credit for the hit, as she’d been working with Peyton on that. After the loss, Dave wanted to head down the mountain, as it was getting traffic heavy already. I texted the coach to let him know we were headed down there, and then I took a nap. This was Peyton’s second nap of the day. We arrived at the quick stop restaurant, and then the two coaches that were caravaning also stopped, along with another family who was 5 minutes behind us. We had another meal together before calling it a season. The mom called the girls, “Little”, Rayanna, Lauren and Peyton “the fab four”.
We made our way safely home, while Peyton took her third nap of the day. The weekend took its toll on her for sure!
