In this vein, Peyton had Brandon’s word ring for 1st grade.  Brandon was trying to make sentences using 6 of the words in the ring.  She got a hold of it, looked at the word, and said, “WOULD”.  I looked down, and sure enough, the word on the ring was “Would”.  I looked up at Dave with a questioning look.  I wasn’t sure if it was a fluke (there are 50+ words on the ring, and we just started reviewing them before we left on vacation) or if she really “read” it.  I started flipping some more cards, then she’d giggle and say, “I dunno,” when I asked her what they said.  She did recognize “NO” and “COULD” because it rhymed with “WOULD”.  She’s going to really be reading soon! She’s now taken Brandon’s kindergarten ring and is spelling out each word.  She looks like that girl on the spelling bee, who shouts out the letters, one at a time, pausing ever so slightly, to enunciate each letter as she spells it.  Figures, since Dave used to laugh at that girl.  Now his girl looks like she is prepping for the spelling bee.
